I "m glad Gracie is home .,prayers for a speedy recovery. |
AWww I just now seen this, sitting here with big ol tears in my eyes!! I am so glad she is getting better and eating well! I so very much appreciate your story, pictures, and experience with all of this as Parker has LP. I don't know what grade yet as I am going to have to drive over 3 hrs to take him to a specialist (soon, VERY soon) I know he is only 5 months and from my research the sooner the better when they are young. He shows no sign of discomfort (as his vet told me about his LP I would have never known) but just tonight I was holding him up and let his back legs touch the ground and was feeling his knees and I could feel the pop so much! So much that it scared me into calling the specialist tomorrow for an appointment. I'll be watching your thread and praying for a full and speedy recovery for your beautiful lil baby girl!!! She is in our prayers :) |
Gracie post op day 4 Gracie had the best night last night, she was only awake once as far as I know, and that was to move off of her pillow and get under the covers with me where she stayed the rest of the night. This morning she had diarrhea. She is now refusing to take her pills. She got wise to me putting them in the pill pocket treats, and now most anything else other than a bit of cheddar cheese. She did not want breakfast at all this morning. I managed to get a slice of turkey bacon and a few bites of oatmeal down her. I know that is not the best diet but it is better than nothing. She also took a dab of Nutrical. She drank some water, but she still is not drinking enough. This morning she refused the chicken broth. I am at my wits end with what to try next to get some fluids down her. I so don't want her to end up at the vet on an IV. Today she is just resting. I think I will start backing off on the pain meds (go from every 6 hours to every 8 hours) and see if that helps her appetite any. Can anyone tell me how to tell if a Yorkie is dehydrated? She is peeing, her pee is darker than it should be so I know she is not getting enough water, but how do I know when to worry? |

lol.. i didn't say she would like the syringe.. it would just be a way to get the water down.. Layla fights me tooth and nail with that but at least i know some got in her :) |
3 Attachment(s) Gracie ate a turkey burger with cheese and some rice for lunch, and then she drank a good amount of water. I need to stop stressing and just let her do what she needs to do, within reason. Here are a few more post-op pics. The one with her butt up in the air was taken about 45 minutes after she had a pain pill, she was sound asleep in that pose! Almost funny! |
oooh poor sweet thing. I am so glad they left the hair on her tail :) good to see her standing!!! keep it up Gracie! What does her sister think of her condition? |
Oh my word!!!....Gracie's behind pic's are so adorable!!!...That almost looks like a hairy womans rear!!!....Poor Gracie it must be so hard for her to look dignified in her condition...lol....Pretty soon she'll be her old self....Go Gracie go! I just want to scoop her up and cuddle her! |

I'm so glad to see she is home. Her pictures are heartbreaking but I know she will heal and be better than every! Sending warm healing wishes to Gracie from Lucy and me... |
Just now reading this thread....her pics just tear at my heart, poor little baby. I'm glad she is home, my gang and I are sending thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. |
2 Attachment(s) One last set of pictures for today. Gracie had demonstrated this pose several times but never held it long enough for me to capture it. This one actually made me laugh. I think we should use it for "caption this" because I have no idea what is in her head with this one. |
Poor Gracie....Her pic's break my heart and yet at the same time she's so adorable....What a little sweetheart.....I hope she gets better fast so she can at least get those casts off and get some more comfortable rest........ |
How was Gracie's night last night?? |

Gracie had another comfortable night last night. I have her meds on a schedule so she does not go more than 8-9 ours without pain meds. I can't tell if she vomited or had a bit of diarrhea this morning, it was brownish and foamy. I hope she is not getting an ulcer. She had no appetite last night, but ate a good breakfast this morning. She has had her pain meds and has gone back to bed. Yesterday afternoon, some of the old Gracie emerged with the head tilt/perk up when I mentioned "treat", though she would not eat any. This is going to be the longest month of my life. We are looking forward to her next vet visit on 2/6 to have her stitches removed. Hopefully the casts will not have to be put back on. She will still have to stay very quiet until February 23. |
i just want to say thank you so much for posting her daily progress..you have no idea how much i appreciate it. I am sitting here with my tears coming down..i hope little gracie will feel better soon. I bet she'll be back to her little bouncy self. she is too cute.. i was also informed not too long ago that my little tumi has a mild case of LP. The vet said she doesn't need surgery yet since she is still young and it can pop back in by itself. I am well aware that i might have to deal with the surgery one day. everytime i think about it, i cry..it just breaks my heart. but you have been a huge inspiration to me. Thank you! Please give little Gracie kisses from my Gracie and Tumi! |
I just want to eat her up:D She is such a cutie, bandages and all. I do so hope she heals quickly, for her sake and yours;) Sheilagh |
Just checking in on Gracie, she has stolen my heart, what a sweetheart!...That's wonderful that her stiches come out soon! ... I'll keep her in my thoughts that she doesn't have to have those cumbersome stilts put back on. lol |
Wishing Gracie a speedy recovery.She is so adorable.:) :) :) |
My heart goes out to Gracie..she is sooooo cute...her little bright eyes...keeping her in my prayers for a speedy recovery...and restful night... |
I just found this thread, and am so glad you are educating us about LP. Gracie is a doll, and I wish I could hug her. This has to be very hard for you as well. Seeing her little butt just makes me believe more that they are so very human. The expressions on her face made me sad at first, but now that I hear how her recovery is coming along, I am glad she had the surgery. She deserves the best, and so do you. Thanks for sharing, and please keep us posted on her recovery. Kate |
