Her pictures make me want to cry :( Lacy has grade 3 in her right leg and grade 2 in her left leg and I'm so worried she'll need surgery one day. Breeders have got to start getting their dogs patellas cleared before breeding and stop breeding dogs with LP (even only grade 1). It may not be life-threatening, but it can be painful and is an expensive and traumatic surgery. I truly believe LP could be bred out of dogs if breeders would carefully screen all of their dogs...but of course that will most likely never happen. I just feel so bad for dogs with LP..I worry about Lacy's little knees a lot :( |

Aw poor little girl. I think she looks adorable in her little casts though. I'll keep her recovery in my prayers! Good luck! |
Bless her sweet little heart ~ Gracie I hope you start to feel better real soon. Sending prayers your way. Roxie sends lots of gentle hugs and kisses. Thank you so much Melonie for sharing your experiences with Gracie's LP surgery and recovery. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be to have to watch your sweet little girl in such pain. My heart goes out to you and Gracie. My little girl Roxie also has LP's. |
Thank you for sharing your story lily is going to go through this soon, she is stage 2 and you have answered so many of my questions and let me know what the post op is going to be, I hope she gets well soon. O did you use a reg. vet or go to an ortho surgeon. |
I hope Gracie is resting peacefully tonight. |
Sending hugs to poor little Gracie and to Mom. I hope that she heals quickly and completely. |
Poor little lovey. Makes me so sad for the little tyke. I hope the pain goes away soon. We had to drug our little Pookie up pretty good after her spay surgery last year. She'd start to shake every 4 hours, and she was in bad shape the first 3 days, even tho she was determined to get the stitches out, little stink. We had to request more pain pills for her because she didn't get over the pain for about 4 days. Are you in the Yorkie Meetup group locally? We bring our Pookie to those. We're on the Eastside as well. Pookie usually hides under a chair most of the time, but we hope she'll get used to the others one day. |
Bless you and your baby!! My heart goes out to you both. Gracie is adorable. Thank you for sharing pics. L.P. was common even 30 years ago, when there were a lot less yorkies around. My first yrokie had very mild L.P., did not require surgery, her parents were imported from England and were top class yorkies those days. Just one of those things. :( You are a wonderful mom for taking time off work to care for her. I hope she has a speedy recovery. Prayers coming your way. Hugs Sheilagh. |

Sunday update on Gracie I'm glad this thread is helping so many people who are about to go through the same thing with their babies. I'm sure every Yorkie is as different as every person in how their recovery goes from surgery. Gracie did a bit better last night than the night before. She was restless, but not as much and there was much less moaning. She was up at 1:30 for her first BM since she came home, then she was up at 3:00 needing more pain meds. This morning she is sleeping a lot, but seems alert when she wakes up. It might be that extra dose of pain meds last night. She is refusing water and only ate two bites of breakfast. It was all I could do to get her to take her Rimadyl in the pill pocket treat, she spit it out several times before she finally ate it. She usually loves it. If she is not eating and drinking by tomorrow (the vet said 24 hours of this was concerning) I will call the vet. I did get her to eat some Nutrical. She had one short episode of shaking this morning, nothing nearly as bad as yesterday. She seems to be getting better at positioning herself in bed, not needing as much assistance with that now. Thats about all the news for today. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get her interested in taking water I am all ears. I have been forcing some down her with a syringe but I hate forcing her. I thought about boiling some chicken or white meat turkey without any seasoning and seeing if she will drink that broth. What do you think? |

as far as her eating, i'd basically give her whatever she wants. her regular food, baby food, mighty dog, wet food, boiled chicken or hamburger, etc. even if its 'bad' like mighty dog, whatever gets her eating is good. |
Bless her sweet little heart . Gracie I hope you start to feel better real soon. Sending prayers your way. sending lots of gentle hugs and kisses. |
..if the chichen broth don't work...... how about a little something sweet in the water???..... a little syrup? sugar? Give Gracie a big hug (but not too tight) for us!!! |
Poor Baby! Just seeing the pics makes me so scared that we might have the same problem some day. It has got to take every minute of your day to care for her. I hope she feels better soon. Hugs from Chloe and Zoey. |
