The vet just called. We did a bile acid recheck to make sure they stayed down from last time. Postprandial is now 106 (pre is 1.4) and Ellie had a liver biopsy already. It is most likely not MVD. We have to go for an ultrasound... :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

When does she go for her ultrasound. Just keep thinking positiive thoughts I know you are scared I would be also. I am keeping her in my thoughts and prayers. Just keep thinking positive

I'm sorry :( Does your vet have any thoughts to what the problem may be? Do you think this has to do with her accidents?

I don't understand how it can be this high. No MVD and no seizures, shaking or anything. She seems very healthy.

PLEASE everyone, get your Yorkies checked.

The problems may be related. I've been concerned about it. It could be ammonium urate stones but she doesn't have symptoms for those.

The vet doesn't know. The numbers can only be up twice like this if there is a liver problem. If it isn't LS or MVD then I don't know.

The vet said we could just supplement her for another month and see what they do (it worked last time) but we are just pushing off the u/s really. She said if it was her dog she would do the u/s.


For those who don't understand a word of this, these numbers mean that Ellie could have a liver shunt and may require a very invasive surgery (probably out of state). It is very expensive. Hopefully it isn't htat though.

Hi, I am sad to hear about your baby having bile acids #'s high. Not sure what it all means but I am sad that you are so worried and that there could be something wrong with her health. Will pray for things to go well. Is it possible that there could be an error in the test itself, margin of error?

What do her other bloodwork numbers look like? Did you have a blood panel done?

She has had two blood panels done recently. The first time the ALT was 118 so slightly elevated and her MYL or MVL (can't read it) was 481 so slightly low. Everything else was within reference range. The second blood panel everything was normal and ALT was back down in the 40's.

Sometimes the gallbladder contracting can increase the numbers but this is the second time they've increased so it is very unlikely. 106 is way too high to be in the margin of error. 25 is the highest I would accept.

Even if the results were within the "normal" range, look at the numbers and see if they are on the HIGH side of normal or LOW side of normal....This may give you more insight...Are there any numbers like that?? Within normal, but on the high/low end?
