| ![]() I gave Delilah a turkey heart and when she got almost all of it eaten she grabbed the remaining bit from my hands and swallowed it whole....she was choking on it and I tried the squeezing her lung thing and nothing, i tried to reach down her throat but it was too far gone. Her little tongue and gums got really pale. I just kept trying to squeeze her and took her outside for fresh air....I gave her a bit of water in a dropper to make sure she was swallowing. She is now in my lap and I am wondering if there is anything I can do (something to help the heart on down) or something I should have done. Her tongue is pinked back up some but I am a nervous wreck! I have learned my lesson....I will cut things up for her from now on!

| ![]() Well, hiccups are a way for her body to react to get the thing down. That's about all I know. I know how to do the little doggie heimlich, but if she is breathing then she should be ok. Tbone does this sometimes where he will just gulp down something that is too big for him, and he will sulk for a while because I know it isn't comfortable in his little tummy, but his insides will do their jobs and he will work it out eventually. Hopefully this is what your puppy will do. She should be drinking plenty of water, but I know you can't force her to do that. Maybe set out some fresh water in a bowl other than where she normally gets it with a few ice cubes in it. My dogs always drink readily from fresh chilled water. best of luck, my heart goes out to you!

| ![]() Thank you so much for your reply! I have not put her down. She scared me so bad. She is alert and breathing (that's a good thing) but I am still worried naturally. I hope I did not break a rib in my panic. I know I did not press hard but they do have such frail little bones. So this Thanksgiving I am thankful I still have my baby girl with me! Happy Thanksgiving to all and may none of you choke!

| ![]() HAHA!! What well wishes! I think she'd be letting you know if she had a broken rib. If she isn't crying, she's probably ok. And I doubt she will have anything worse than a tummy ache. Glad she is ok!

| ![]() This is a great post for me to mention.... Canine CPR & emergency first aid You can register for a course through St. John's Ambulance or contact your local college for more information. If there isn't a course in your area you can also find some great (but basic) information via Google (Please try to find a class with a licensed instructor). Alana
