Yes, Sadie has two actually. Apparently there are two main kind of readers, so our vet does two so that no matter where she'd be taken, it could be read. (But I just keep praying we never need that done)

I live in SD and it is definitely not mandatory in CA from what I know

Mine doesn't have a microship... and I don't know anyone HERE that has... most purebred dogs here have tatoos though...

I was interrested in microchiping my 3 yorkies and talked to our vet and our county's animal control. I was told that we could have the dogs chipped but there was not a reader in the county to read the chips!!!!

They suggested tattooing the dogs for id. They did not even seem interrested in the whole idea.

Here we are, a lakeside community in an area with thousands of transient visitors many with dogs from all over the midwest and there's not a chip reader in the county to help identify your dog if it gets away from you. Scary thought. Check with your local animal control and vet to make sure there is a chip reader and what kind of chip reader available in your area before having your dog microchipped.

We have friends living aboard their boat in the Caribbean. Their dog, Chloe, is microchipped and they purchased a reader themselves to have with them as they travel.

I really want to microchip Kona and Bernie but my bf is against it. I think I might just take them in to get it done and not tell him...

All my animals are microchipped, they are compulsory for their passports and if you live in France..
Here most animals have tattoos, although they are phasing them out slowly and bringing in the microchip here too

Stedman doesn't have one, and I still haven't decided yet if we are going to get it done or not. He never even goes out of this house unless it's with me right beside him...so I honestly don't think he'd ever really need one...but like I said, I still haven't decided yet for sure or not. I don't know, I guess we'll see!
