POLL: How do you feel about a SECTION on Mills ? I've never posted a poll before but want to get an idea of how people feel about adding a Section on Yorkietalk regarding Puppy Mills.... This would be a place we could post help and information on the fight to save dogs living in these horrid conditions and being sold in Pet Stores etc.... I learned about mills a long time ago - It seems like a long time ago - but in a dogs life - it's already been TOO LONG for them... I'm very active in writing letters etc and feel sometimes it's no help at all - then I remember - we ALL have voices and the more people outraged - the better chance we have of putting the brakes on the millions of dogs out there being abused Puppy Mills are a terrible problem in our country and there just aren't enough people getting educated out there - This site is so visible I would love to see a special section here to aid in the fight against Puppy Mills and the Sale of Dogs in Pet Stores. |
I'll be very happy to see a section on that subject . Puppymills should be banned forever . |
I agree 100%!! The interest and the awareness on this site, increases everyday,,and I think a section on here, would be a great way to continue to do that.. which is exactly the beginning of the only way I know of to STOP it!    :D |
Villette .... I think it's a WONDERFUL idea!!! The only way a difference will ever be made is for those who are against this horrific practice to just keep on keeping on!!! I'm all for it!!! |
WOW you guys are FAST !! I Was still doing the poll questions when you posted !! I already like the response ! :D |
Wonderful Idea Villette! It would be nice to have the threads about this in one section. It would make it easier on all of us to find information that our members have posted. Some members are very unaware of what is happening out there. I had no clue about this subject unitl I joined this forum. More information on this subject, the more we could "stand" together and save lives. |
I think it's a great idea too and I didn't know anything about puppy mills until I joined this site either!!! Knowledge and education on the subject is the first step in making a difference!!! :) |
Ok, let me also say.... When I do post Puppy Mill info or questions... I post them in " Off Topic discussions" YET,,, It is so NOT OFF TOPIC,,, because it concerns OUR Yorkies so much ,and all the unsuspecting buyers, etc,,, Anyhow I just had to throw that in too,,, I always feel like I'm doing a Unjustice by posting it there,, like it is UNworthy. When it is SO WORTHY! |

This is a way to have it always on the site for people to be educated & learn.... and maybe THEY willl try to help these poor animals too. Many of our posts are so informational ....but disappear after a few days.... too many people don't see them because they get lost in all the other threads. :( |
Awesome idea V!!! I think this is an important section to have.    I know we have the Mill Busters website but you can never have too much info on the horrors of puppy mills. I really hope a puppy mill section is allowed -- only good and awareness can come from it.  |

Great Idea !!!!! Only if we get a loud enough group voice will we ever be able to stop this terrible abuse of one of God's most precious creatures. :thumbdown I support you Villette- SUPER GREAT IDEA |
actually, one site exists already http://www.nopuppymills.com/ however, I think this is great idea  . |
Great Idea!!! So many great threads get lost in just a few days, this would be awsome!!  :) |
villette another great idea... nice going girl.. |
I would suggest to write to Animal Planet. I am very surprised  : PM is SO big problem in the US, but i have NEVER seen any movies about this although I always watch animal channel. |
Just as a note, you guys had better be careful when posting up information about an individual that you believe/suspect of being a puppy mill. Making false accusations can lead you into a lot of trouble. You can be charged w/ libel, defamation of character, etc...And even IF what you are saying is true, you can still get in trouble for it. There was an incident a couple of years back where an unhappy customer posted up his dissatisfaction about work done by an automotive dealer/shop. The dealer ended up suing this customer for libel and won. Let me ask you this. HOW do you think you can help by posting up this information? |
did you look at the pictures? I think its pretty obvious those dogs aren't being properly cared for. Wheather they are a puppy mill or not, the dogs aren't in very good condition. |
Yes, this would be a wonderful addition to this forum...Thanks Villette for the poll! |
I think this is a wonderful idea. I bought my baby from what I would consider as puppy mill, not knowing at the time, and ended up with tons of vet bills because he was sick..........long story short....I would like to hear how other people are fighting the battle against mills in their areas. |
This is just a though but what if we had a section that stated: Why you do not want to buy a dog from a pet store or mass breeder and list like 10 things (the number doesn't matter but what you are trying to do is get people's attention) and then have all these links to all the different websites. To me the important thing is to make people who are just starting to search for a dog understand what could happen if they bought spur of the moment because they were so cute. A lot of people will not take the time to read the different articles but some will. It would also be nice if we could have a section on recommended breeders but I suppose that opens up a whole can of worms. |

And even IF what you are saying is true, you can still get in trouble for it well... i personally had a big fight. I asked about my breeder on public forum. OMG, I received MANY privat e-mails and some people wrote on public forum. Most of people were afraid to put their names, etc. The reason - the puppy miller, we spoke about, has a good loyer and she scares people alot. I wrote about her lie also. She called me and was trying to scare me too. But I am not that type of girl :D ;) . My hubby shut her mouth very fast  Than I received many nasty e-mails from her friends that I cannot even speak good English (it's my second language). Anyway, people are very careful. Let's say, although that breeder has a big file with complaints, she could have more if all people who had problems with her, reported her. But they do not do that unfortunately. |
HOW do you think you can help by posting up this information? this is PUBLIC forum and people can say all they want. Nothing wrong. it is not easy to sue somebody because of its opinion on public forum, NOT easy. I believe, information is very important. |
I think its a great idea...... |

i think it would be good and we can find out info on how to stop them! |

Actually it is very easy to sue, winning the case is another situation. It still takes lawyers and $$$ to fight a lawsuit even if you win you lose because of the amount of $$$ you had to pay out. This site could be shutdown because of a lawsuit. I have seen rescue's shut down because of lawsuits, not that they were wrong just didn't have the $$$ to fight it. If you start reading all the documentation on puppy mills you rarely will see someones name until the end of the trial. There is a reason for this and that is because of lawsuits. I can't remember if it was on this thread or another but a YTer had excellent advise on the steps you need to take if you bought a puppy mill dog that died. Her advise was excellent on something else I would like to see keep on this page. One of her points was contacting the BBB=Better Business Bureau, not that they could do alot but now it is a public record. I realize alot of people have passion about this but the only way it is going to change is if everyone understands it is all about laws, not passion. You might find it interesting that YTCA does not support the PAWS legislation. http://www.ytca.org/mainview.htm Dear Members, The Board of Directors of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, Inc. has passed a motion of nonsupport of the PAWS Legislation . We do not support Senate Bill 1139, House Bill 2669, being the same bill. It is our Board’s decision that this legislation is not in the best interest of the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. The objects of our club encourage and promote quality breeding of purebred Yorkshire Terriers. We set the standard of excellence for our breed with the breeding and showing of our dogs. It is our responsibility to improve our breed and encourage the preservation of its characteristics and its health and well being.. We feel it is our responsibility to continue these efforts for our Breed and for anyone who wishes to own a healthy, well socialized Yorkshire Terrier. We therefore do not support legislation federalizing hobby breeding in our homes. We encourage our members to write the Agriculture Committee, their Representative and both their Senators. A sample letter will be provided on our YTCA Bulletin Board for your information. Again, we oppose the PAWS legislation. Regards, Janet Jackson |

For instance, I do not recommend ... because...: - she doesn't show the parents - she ship her pups everywhere across the country (my personal opinion ;) ) - she breeds many breeds - she doesn't give any health guarantee or her quarantee for 72 hours or so, or tricky guarantee (like only exchange puppy):will you want to take a new puppy from a person, who sold you a sick already? ;) - she sells pupps in 6-7 weeks - she advertises t-cup and breeds very tiny females - she doesn't ask questions about me, why I want this breed, what I know about this breed, where do I live, do I have a yard, do I have small children, etc, etc or I recommend because...: - she breeds for quality, not money - she has only one breed - she visit the shows - she doesn't ship across the country - she communicate with owner after puppy sold - her dogs are raised at home - she checks future owners/she doesn't sell to every house - she sells pups at 10-12 weeks - she shows the parents - she give a good health quarantee (sometimes even life quarantee for genetic problems with returning money back) - she doesn't advertise t-cup and do not breed very small females etc. etc. |
Good Idea! I would read it. It is so sad to me but knowledge is power! :D |
