Do you cut the hair by your pups eyes or grow it out? I'm trying to decide what to do. I don't like the constant grooming of trimming the hair around Princess's eyes & I'm nervous about her moving or something. I wanted it to grow out like other pups but it's taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r! Now the hair sticks horizontally in front of both eyes, though it's not poking them this time. What do you do? Is your pup in a full or short coat? |
My groomer is making me grow Rosie's out. I will tell you the truth. It is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!! She did say I could use a tiny bit of vaseline to make it lay down instead of poking her eye balls! |
I snip the hairs in the corners next to Mina's eyes. I have poodles and they require more grooming than the yorkie,so I dont mind. |
lanolin works really well for holding the hair back and is 100% safe for dogs to eat -be sure it is !00% pure HOA lanolin ( I use lansinhol) Having a super hard time with retraining the snout hair to go parted over nose in one part and up between eyes to join the hair to be grown out and up in a top knot |
Belle has never had the hair trimmed near her eyes and it lays flat nicely. Actually, she's never had a haircut other than tipping her ears and trimming near her backside. I don't trust groomers after hearing all of the horror stories on YT, and prefer the look of a full coat. Luckily, Belle has a slow growing silk coat :) Just be patient with growing the hair out near her eyes, once it gets long enough it will lay flat and you won't have to worry about it :D |
I want to grow Rosie's out but have had groomers cut it when I say I want to grow it out. I am starting over now and hope it goes fast! lol I think the girls especially look more girly with it frown our and the boys are cute with it all trimmed. Just me though. ;) |
I've been growing Bogey and Pebbles hair out forever. But I have to say that their eyes seem much cleaner as the hair gets longer. It's also easier to clean the little bit of eye gunk they now get. Doodlebug still has the short hair and I will always keep it that way. He's just not meant to have long hair or a topknot. :( |
I keep Ruby and Reno's facial hair uncut and it lays down as it should. It does take awhile to grow out, and until it does you just have to be patient, and use hair products (suggested above) to keep the wild hairs down. My foster boy Jack, has an eye that didn't form correctly, so to help camouflage his little flaw, I cut his facial hair fairly short. |
We are almost to the point where I can hold all the pieces back. I currently still have a few strands that escape. |
Both of mine have it short by the eyes, but honestly that started with the vet telling me to cut it short every time we saw her. Mine do both get bad eye gunk and I think it seems easier to keep them clean when the hair is cut around their eyes. I am going to trying using nursery water with them to see if it helps with the gunk, so I may grow it out if it works. |
I have six dogs and one puppy. I do not cut the hair at the eyes. |
I cut the hair by Levi's eyes because I am impatient. I would LOVE to grow it out and have it lay flat nicely, but his hair was VERY short when I got him. I've tried to let it grow several times, but I get frustrated with the hairs constantly in his eyes, and eventually have the groomer trim around the eyes. I'm going to try again. :) |
It's the hardest point when it's just long enough to poke them in the eye but not long enough to lay down. I'll admit I cut Uni's out of frustration before, but eventually I let it grow out. It lays down for the most part, but since her hair is so fine it does tend to break easily, then that part will be broken, usually at the part when I clip it. Now Chloe and Smokey's had their's cut short and I'm growing it out. Their's are fanning out, and it looks so cute. Kind of like Dexter's hair cut, minus the long flowing ear hair. :) I use Pet Silk Top Knot gel and that also helps to kind of "glue" down the hair. I always was afraid of trimming the eye hair, having the scissors so close to the eye ball.=/ |
I've let Thor's hair grow all the way out, but it actually got stuck in his eyes even more. His hair is so light, the ends fly up and get trapped in his eyes all the time. I let his whiskers get long and hang down, but the hair on his nose and around his eyes is short. I have a pair of kids scissors with a blunt nose. I cut his hair probably once or twice per week. |
I cut Jackson's short. Since I keep his hair short, and no topknot, I wonder what it would look like to grow the hair out around the eyes? Does anyone have a picture? It is very annoying because it seems that hair grows fairly fast and I need to cut it myself in between the groomer but I get so nervous doing it. So it happens about once every 2-3 weeks probably. |
Keep it short. |
I've never cut ZoE's eye hair and now that she's 10 months old, it's just now starting to kinda lay flat. Why is it that those of us that like the long hair seem to have slow hair growing pups and those of you that like the puppy-type cuts have fast growing hair? It's just not fair! Ok...I'm done whining.....for now :D |
UGGGGGG! Just saw our new groomer yesterday and I really like her. She is a mobile groomer which I LOVE because everyone I have ever gone to makes them come in the morning and stay all day. Not good for me or Rosie. She was wonderful with Rosie and did a nice job EXCEPT for the hair between her eyes! I did say to her when explaining what I wanted that I wanted the hair on her head and her muzzel and all to grow out. My fault i all honesty because even after I explained about the hair there and what I wanted she said so we'll just even her out and clean up this hair by her eyes and I just kinda took a breath and said ummmm ok. Feeling like I would be a bad mom if I didn't let her do it. HOW do you get a groomer to leave them alone??? I love the look of the top knots and babies faces who have not had these hairs cut but I cannot get a single groomer ever to leave them alone even when I ask. |

And...all of my girls have their heads grown out and as Jodi mentioned...it is actually easier to keep their eyes clean! |
I always keep the hair near and around the eyes long and find that it stays flat and out of their eyes this way. :aimeeyork At times I've used a product called Cindra gel for keeping the little fly aways better controlled after their baths. I love this product it works really well, isn't sticky and doesn't cause a build up. :D |

I keep Andy's short at his eyes. I can't stand looking at him and seeing hair in his eye's. LMAO my skin babies i was forever brushing the hair out from their eye's to |
I've never cut Gwenni's and it stays out of the way. Finnigan's I've finally grown out and it will not stay out of the way! Its sooo frustrating, but I refuse to cut it again after it took so long to grow out. |
No cutting for us. |
It took months but the hair around Jax's eyes finally grew out. It still gets in his eyes sometimes, but it's much less of a problem than before. He also still gets eye boogers but not as bad as before when it was short and poking him in the eye. |
Milo's hair around his eye are short, they grow so quick and can never get the top knot right without it falling out and then all his hair falls flat and in his eyes, cutting under the eyes and around the corners is dificult and always looks messy, his eyes water a bit and that hair is always wet!!! |
Well I cut it! She was trying to see around it, lol, & I said forget it! Actually, I cut all of her hair, even most of her topknot. Growing it out seemed to be for my pleasure & not hers so I got rid of the hassle. I think she can still wear a small bow for special occasions but since the rest is short the eye hair might as well be, too. So my vote has changed.;) |
for now we are letting lola's grow out but keep the hair right by the inner corner of her eyes short. i cant imagine how awful it must feel if it were in her eyes all day. so i keep that part short. she hates her hair in bows, since its not yet very long it hurts her, so we leave her hair in no top knot and growing out for now |
I have been growing Sophia's out for a year now. I like ot so much better long. She gets way less eye gunk now as well. She is a wavy cotton coat, so I've been keeping her body hair shirt and her head hair long. She wears clothes all the time, so it doesn't look strange. I am not cutting Peyton's at all. So far I think his coat will be more silky, so upkeep should be easier! |
