can a 3-4 lb yorkie, wear a collar safely, ONLY when going out? idk WHAT size i would buy...would it be a small dog or a cat type collar? idk, but that is the estimate growth of this pup i'm likely getting...actually definately have decided on. i know lightweight goes w/o saying, i wish i didn't have to, a found a dress i can hook a lead on but not for ALL the time use, ukwim. i'd LIKE my baby to have a return address, just IN CASE, u know, so i want her SAFE, but i want her to be found if by some crazy off chance she got lost but then again, whose gonna return a VERY expensive dog? it would be better then nothing, just curious do they make collars this small and if so, dogs or cat ones would i use, and id tag...yeah or nah? thanks a bunch, i can't wait to get my baby! hugs, michelle ps- would a dog of 3 lbs be considered tea cup size , cause where iam buying online it says tea cup, xxsmall, xs, etc....so idk, if she ends up 3-4 lbs, the breeder says likely 3, what would that be considered? im trying to place an order today or tomorrow, so if you can let me know GREATLY appreciated. |
I have Sasha wear a collar all the time and a harness only when we go out for walks. |
I dont know what to choose. I usually keep her collar on all the time, and sometimes a harness when we go out. I might show her when shes older though, so just today I started her not wearing a collar or harness when shes in the house. The collar mats up her fur and she doesnt like the harness. |
I use a break away collar with tags on it and Zoe wears that all the time. And I got the collar from chattiesmom - she does a great job! I use a harness when walking Zoe, I never attach a leash to her collar. And I usually only put the harness on her when she's going out. |

Got a collar for George but then joined YT and found that collars too hard on throat so he wears a harness all the time when at work in case we need to go potty outside or if door is open then he leashed, but when I say he wears it all the time it's only at work 5 days a week not at home |
Remi wears a collar all the time, but when we go for walks he wears a harness. :) |
Autumn wears a collar all the time so I can hear her jingle. She is the only one that stays underfoot literally! The rest don't wear collars at all even though they have them. I have them all microchipped as I do the puppies that I adopt out. I put everyone a harness if we go anywhere. Autumn wears a harness as well. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I keep a collar on Nolee all the time. It has his name, address & phone number on it. I guess it is just for the honest person to return him if he ever gets lost! |
Cooper wears a harness when we go out. But I am thinking of putting him in a collar when he is around the house. He is chipped, but I would feel better if he was wearing a tag. I also like the fact that I could hear him jingle. He might get stepped on a lot less if I could hear him coming! |
Mine wear their collars at all times. My fear is one of my human kids will open the door and one of my furbabies will go running out. Basil is very good at coming to me when I call but TT thinks it is "catch me if you can" game time! I worry someone will take one home and I will never see them again. I do notice some hair breakage with the collar so if you show your babies, collars would not be a good idea but since mine are just family, we are happy with our choice. |
My little Luna wears her collar all the time for 2 reasons. 1. So I can avoid hurting her by stepping on her from the jingling bell 2. In case she slips outside that way she always has her ID on And then we put a harness on when going outside |
Sophie wears a collar all the time, but we put the harness on when going out/walking her. |
Jackson wears a collar w/ ID tags 24/7. :) He wears a harness for walks. |
