With collars or without collars. Does your Yorkie(s) wear a collar or harness for everyday wear? I use a harness but only when we go out. |
my guys wear collars all the time and harnesses only when we go out |
Duke wears a leather collar all of the time. I have a bell hanging off of it so that if he is not right by my side, I can tell what room of the house he is in. |
Bounce wears a collar just about everyday (he has literally over 30 of them) that coordinates with his outfit for that day. They all have bells on them so I know where he is in the store at work and where he is at home. He only wears a harness to strap him into his carseat or if we're going to be walking somewhere more congested than our usual places so that I can make sure it's easy to snatch him up real quick if I need to. |
I have a "phobia" about things being around Toto's neck ... and since she is always home with me, she only wears her harness when we go for walks. ;) |
I am just not comfy with Schatzie in the house with a collar or harness on. She's a free dog indoors, ha ha.. When we go out she has a harness on. |
Tommy - Always wears his collar indoors or out we just take it off when he is taking a bath..lol :D Monica and Tommy :aimeeyork |
Biggie wears a collar sometimes. He has 2.. one with an inital B on it an another just plain circle tag with his info on it. He only wears a harness when he goes out. Whenever I take it out, he loves it because he knows he's about to go somewhere. |
For the people that do not put collars on there babies at all. Do you ever worry about them accidentaly escaping when someone walks into your house. I don't want to put a collar on my baby becuase I always hear stories about collars and I was curious. I am also nervous because what if they escape and nobody knows whose dog it is becuase they don't have the tags on them. |
My dogs are microchipped but they do wear collars when they go out. |
My Gucci uses a safety collar all the time that has a bell and her id tag. This collar is uses mostly for cats but it works for Gucci. Is made so if for any reason the collar gets stuck on something it will come off without hurting her when pull. |
I didn't know how to answer this one. Sandy wears a collar at all times, it is a breakaway collar so I feel she is safe, plus since she likes to be outside I like her to have her information on her even though she is microchipped. Sandy is also over 10 pounds. Tia, on the other hand hasn't worn anything yet. I'm still trying to find a harness I like (and how silly am I - I want her and Sandy to match as well!) So, there's my drawn out answer! LOL |
Bella wears a harness Bella wears a harness all the time. She can only use the bathroom outside when I taker her so I just leave it on her. I am comfortable wearing a harness, but I would not be about a collar. I wouldn't want anything around her neck that might choke her. |
So far I haven't gotten Bailey microchipped yet (going to on Thurs) but he wears a safety collar all the time with his info on it. |
Collars Is there a good place to get really cute collars for Yorkies? They break away ones sound good too. I got a harness for mine for walks but a collar would be a good idea around home with a bell on it so you know where he is. Dog tags make enough noise too. getting yorkie in 17 days and counting!! someone posted about using ferret collars for really tiny babies... |
Why not leave the harness on? I found this poll and discovered that most people who use harnesses don't use them all the time. Susan goes out on a leash most of the time, so if she doesn't wear her harness all the time that means I'll have to put it on her every time I take her out -- including first thing in the morning and last thing at night when I'm half asleep and when she's hopping up and down desperate to go out. It just doesn't seem practical to me. I take the harness off if she's going to be home alone, otherwise she wears it. It doesn't seem to bother her. Why do people take them off and doesn't putting them on and taking them off get bothersome? I'm just curious about the thinking on this in case I'm missing something I should consider. |
Albert only wears a Harness when we are going outside. |
there have been too many yorkies lost from hanging themselves with their collars. So, no, mine do not ever wear collars but do wear harnesses when we go someplace. |
We have never used a collar on our yorkies only a harness and thats only used when we go out. |

Sometimes yes and sometimes not. Poor girl is always in trouble... :) :) |
Trixie wore a regular collar for obedience training, but did not like it at all. She gets sooo excited sometimes that even the collar won't stop her and she'll pull until she can't breathe. Since obedience training is done, I only walk her on a harness. She never ever ever has the harness on when she is by herself! Way to dangerous! |
ALL 6 of my dogs wear their collars ALL the time. If we go for a walk, I put their harnesses on. Their collars have their ID on them. So if for some reason when I am not home and they magically find a way out, I know they have some sort of ID. And around here they are known as necklaces! |

Harnesses for walks or when going in the car. |
mine only wears the harness. and its only when we go out. i really dont like collars that much. |
Bella is "naked" at home. She doesnt wear a collar or harness when we are indoors. When we go out for walks I'll put her harness on. The reason why I dont keep one on her at home is because I feel Yorkie's hair can matt easily therefore I dont want to keep one on her unless I need to. Its not bothersome to me at all to take it off and put it on. |
Collar all the time- harness for only when going out for a walk. Micro-chipped but scared if she ever got out hoping the person could look at the tag on the collar and returned her without waiting for them to take her someone to read the micro-chip ( or would they?) |
At first mine only wore a harness when they went out, But Bell use to get out every once in a while that it made me nervous, so now mine wear collars with their name tags. But I only use them for their name tags, I still use a harness for walking. |
collard all the time. wait a minute! aren't those greens? I like collards but they don't. they do have collars though and my husband has me on a leash. hmmm....i'm confused. |
Mine only wear a harness when they go for a walk. I hardly ever put their collars with all the tags and id info on them....and I DO worry that they will get away and have no kind of id on them. Bentley is microchipped but the other three aren't. I've heard that wearing a colar all the time thins the hair on their neck but that might just be bunk :D If we go to petsmart or something we usually just carry them in and put them in a buggy. |
