Which weight would you prefer? I've never done a poll before :p What weight would you prefer for a Yorkie to be? I understand the standard is under 7 pounds, but I personally prefer the 8-13lb range. Just wondering what you all would prefer. Up until the 1930's, Yorkies often weighed up to 30lbs! |
Bailey is 6 lbs. - small, healthy and hearty. She can do the stairs and furniture without any help - but is still petite. She's perfect!!! :) |
I prefer the 4-7 pound range just because that's Joey's range, he's my first small dog, and he's set the standard for me! If I had children I think I would want a bigger Yorkie for sure, and I can see the appeal in those tinies, as well. I guess I love all sizes! :D |

I agree! Riot's my only small dog and he's 4.5 lbs, and the next smallest dog I've had is 48lbs! |
I'm hoping Sophie will grow into the 5-7 lbs. range... but she's still only 2.6 lbs. at 26 weeks. :-( Of course, I'll love her no matter what size she is! But my last dog was an Akita who weighed over 100 lbs., and I grew up with an Afghan hound... so Sophie feels incredibly fragile to me. She's healthy and super active, but I'd still love for her to be a studier size so I feel like she would be safer! :p |
I prefer the 4-7 pounders closely followed by 8 and maybe 9 pounders. The smaller ones are so fragile and the bigger ones are too heavy to carry around all day. |

my ella bella is 3 1/2 lbs & is about to turn 1 next friday! would like for her to gain just a tad bit more bc she is so tiny! my 8 year old is special needs & is prob on a 5 to 6 year old level & is actually wonderful with ella even being so small! ella seems to understand gracie also so they are actually perfect for eachother:) |
i have a 4.5 lbs and 12 lbs. i love them both the same. the only reason why i would prefer the 4-7 lbs is because they are easier to carry around everywhere. |
Bailey is 3lbs at 6 months and I'm hoping he makes it to 5lbs, I'm a nervous wreck when there are people around, Bailey is always underfoot and I'm constantly saying "watch out for Bailey" I sound like a broken record, but he could get stepped on way to easily! |
I would prefer the 4 - 7 lbs for toting around and airplane travel. However, mine are both 10 lbers' and I love their size for just the everyday normal stuff. I guess what I really wish is they could stay the size they are, but I could fold them up and take them everywhere with me in my pocket :D |
i prefer the 4-7 but any size is fine by me:) they are all lovable little babies:) |
this is a fun poll. :) except i don't know what i prefer. milu is small and i love her, so it would be odd for me to say that i prefer a bigger size. i guess i would say that it's nice for them to be a little bigger, because then you don't have to worry about them as much. BUT! if they are small, they are REALLY easy to go with you EVERYWHERE. i take her with me everywhere, and ppl don't even know she is in the baby sling or the purse. and i can carry her all day since she is so light.:D |

milu does sit very quietly in the purse or baby sling. she used to like to pop her head out of the purse, but then i stopped taking her out with me. so i think she has realized that if she doesn't sit quietly in the bag, i won't take her with me anymore. (confession: i am very bad and i do take her to places she is not allowed...which is why it's very important that she does not pop her head out of the purse...) another thing that i did, which might have helped is that i take her for walks in the purse. because i always want to take her when i go for a walk with jer, but jer thinks it's a pain in the a$$ to walk with milu because she likes to stop every 2 seconds to sniff. so i would put her in the purse and walk. so i think that really got her used to sitting in the purse quietly. she does start moving around when i stop moving though. so if i am shopping, i have to keep moving lol, if i stop then milu thinks it's time for her to come out of the bag. :aimeeyork |
My Yorkie turned 1 today! She is 7lbs. |
We have Clarence at 6.5#, Keegan at 14.6# and our Sweet Sophie at ~9#. Every one of them have our hearts..you cannot belive how much.....we ARE yorkie whores! We love ALL of them. |
I guess I'm just comfortable with Sasha's weight (8lbs) so I chose that one. Yorkies that are smaller are so cute though as well! I think I'd be even more afraid to step on them though. |
I prefer the larger size yorkie, around 9-10 lbs is perfect. My previous yorkies were all 7 lbs and under, and I was always a nervous wreck with them. Constantly hovering over them, worrying they'd get hurt, stepped on, etc. I'm much more relaxed now with Snickers and Baxter, 9 lbs and 12 lbs. They have all the beauty and attitude of the breed, but in a sturdier package. :) |
Toby weighs 16 lbs. and I was watching him run around the backyard today and thinking what a perfect size he was. Our choco lab, Maggy, weighed 98, so we think Toby is tiny. He doesn't like being carried around, I don't think he would sit still that long. |
I love all the sizes! Twinkle is about 13lb and Wicket is 8....and they are the perfect size for me, especially with a four-year old and a two-year old running around! But.......I love love love looking at the pics of the smaller yorkies and I would definitely like one when the children are grown :) xxx |
I prefere the 4-7lb range. Easy to pick up out of the way ig trouble arrises but big enough for long walks and rigourous play. My mom prefers the really tiny ones though. |
Can't say.... I have two very different yorkies: Walker is in the 8-9 pound range, tall, long body and very sleek looking. Morgan is only 3 pounds as of now, short stubby legs and very delicate looking. They both have their advantages and disadvantages based on their size but size was never something I made a priority. I love this breed no, matter what size or color.:yorkiesar |
4 too 7 mine is 4 pounds and she is heathly |
5-6 Pounds I really prefer 5-6 pound dogs cause they are easy to hold. |
Aw. My yorkie is 2!!! She is an adult. I wish she were still a puppy! |
My Nia is 11 lbs, but I chose the 13+ selection because I figured the more yorkie the better.:D |
I have one that is 9 lbs and then a puppy that I am hoping will be under 7lbs. We will see. I love them both but think that the little ones are so cute, however, they can't be too small at out house as we have lots of activityl Theresa |
I prefer the 4-7 lbers only because I show. But I wouldn't trade my two boys that are 8 and 11 lbs. |
Moose is 7 1/2 pounds, so i chose the 4-7 |
