This posts seems a bit intolerant of other opinions. My dogs are not confused and I am not lazy. Mine are trained to go outside, but I use pee pads for their convenience and comfort when I am gone. I don't want them to have to hold it for hours which they will, if there is no pad present. My littlest one has to go often, so a pad is essential if I am to watch my son's ball games. I could crate them and I am sure they could sit and hold it in as long as possible, at what cost to their urinary system? I think if you can always be there for them, never be gone over a couple of hours, then fine, don't ever use a pad of any kind. But I think it is up to each pet owner to find what works best for them and their dogs. No one way is more right than another!

I am amazed though that your dogs have NEVER had an accident. I have never met anyone whose dogs have NEVER had an accident before.

Cry Read every line

I guess anyone who got offended did'nt read every line of my Post, I always put some kind of comment like "In my Opinion" and I make it real obvious that I'm not trying to insult anyone on here. It's not that I'm intolerant or accusing anyone of being "Lazy" or accusing anyone's Yorkie of being "Confused". I am merely speaking/posting of my experience with my own 3 Yorkies, w/c I am very proud of since I Breed, Train and Groom them myself and I beleive my Dogs are a representation of myself and my Standards. As far as Climate I moved from Boston, b/c Artie hated the Snow and all the gear I had to put on him. I was actually thinking of getting an Artificial Grass System for Rainy Days, but put it outside in my Carport so they can still go "Outside" so as not to confuse them. I'm probably one of the few Yorkie Owners that are Happy w/my Yorkie's Looks, Size, Temperment
and Pedigree and take full responsibility for their Health & Well being.
Hi Jodi, Sissy & Angel and Family.......I hope all is well in your World? Thanks for your Help & Support during my "Emergency".

I'm not offended, I see your point and agree with a lot of it, I just think potty pads are meant for some families and not meant for some families.

I am huge germaphob and could not handle Snickers doing his business in the house and then walking in it and all over the home. But, if it works for others, I understand. Esp those with multiple dogs...

Snick is 100% outside trained, he will even refuse to go inside in the event of rain and snow, I've tried pads...he will just go much quicker when it's freezing and raining, but he will go. At one point when he was a pup, he would go in the garage and use the pads..but then as he got older, refused.

It works and the house stays spic and span

I applaud you for taking CONTROL of your furbabies "behavior" when it comes to relieving themselves . . my furbabies are pee pad users (BIG TIME) . . .and that is because I chose it to be . . .I am not at all offended by your posting as you are entitled to speak up what's on your mind. For me the pad works best as I cannot imagine my furbabies going in and out of my house and bringing all sorts of bugs and critters . .and definitely weather is am MAJOR factor for ME as well . . .especially since I live in a 4 season climate . . .besides, they sleep with us and I want to make sure only the 4 of us are on the bed my boy is definitely untrained and I think partly I am to blame . . but I too hate to think of my house smelling like pee so he wears a BB when I am home. Thank goodness my Annika is 100% potty trained When at work, they are confined to my laundry room and have the freedom to relieve themselves as they please, although they really never use it until they hear the garage door rolling up as they are in their crates napping all day long

I have travelled with Annika a few time on the plane and being that she is pee pad trained, it saves me a whole lot of hassle to have to figure out how to get out of the airport in between layovers

I am sooo grateful for whomever have invented the pee pad

Penny is outside, in theory... but she still has accidents in the apartment occasionally. As far as being more difficult to train than other breeds, just based on this singular yorkie experience-- yeah, I'd say they are! Penny is not my first dog, but she is the only one I've had to still have house-breaking mistakes as an adult.

Smile outside trainedMyM

When I got my little gir at 7 weeks,I put news papers at the back door and she would play with them and rip them up and she would pee on the door rug, so I starting using pads between taking her out and she drug thos across the kitchen floor, so I said not doing that anymoreso I started taking he out every half hr. by the time she was 10 weeks, she would go to the door and within a few days, never had any accidents so she was basically outside trained at 10 weeks, to me that is where they are suppose to go,in the winter or in the summer, thats the way I feel.

Gucci is really good outside - BUT you have to take him OUT! I'm still working on getting my retired husband to understand that you have to "find" him and take him out every couple of hours. When I'm home on the weekends we have good success. Gucci loves his walks and has learned recently that when we are in the backyard that it's ok to go . . . He's a little bit of a stinker and doesn't want to walk with my husband, hence our troubles. By the way, any suggestions on why he will only walk with me???

thanks,
Kathy and Gucci

Default Inside / Out

My boy Yorkie Amore' uses Bellie Bands with a thin maxi-pad inside for accidents, easy on and off with velcro. Although we have been taking him outside to go potty in all kinds of weather. Amore' is a New England Yorkie and doesn't mind the changing weather. He still does have accidents once in a while but I'll take the blame for it, he seems to have to go often. I do walk him 2 times a day not to mention many trips outside to pee. Amore' is 2 yr's. and still learning or maybe I am. I would like to know where the person got the grass & fire hydrant, how cool. I think my boy would love it!
Our Best,
Amore's Mom

Sammy will only go outside even in Sub-Zero Freezing Temperatures. You have to shovel a spot right outside the door and he'll use it. He was a Puppy Mill Rescue and will NOT go near a Puppy Pad!! Sophie Kennedy is a whatever kind of girl. She loves to go outside But, If she forgets something she will use the Disp. Puppy Pads like the "Princess" she is. NOW, Baron...He's is my "Little Spaz Monkey"!!! You can go outside for 30 mins. and he'll do both. I do the "Mummies So Happy Dance" and he joins in!! We come in and get a Nummie Treat... And 10-30 minutes later Baron does #1 or #2 no where near either of the Puppy Pads that I have placed in different rooms of the house!! Even if he sees Sophie Kennedy using it!!! I TRULY believe Baron's Birth Mother dropped him out the Second Floor Window on NUMEROUS Occasions!!! I love him dearly and will never give up trying!! But, If he ever gets 100% Housebroken, I am going to ride naked through the Streets of my Development in CELEBRATION... LOL.

Mine all go outside. Except when I have puppies. They use the papper or pee pad for a while until they are old enough to go outside. Then it is outside every 30min. hour or hour and a half. I do that with everyone. They all seem to get it. If we go out I keep them in my kitchen and they usually don't have any accidents. If they do I just clean it up and everything is fine. It rarely happens though. They are all really good babies!
