Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Poll for older Yorkies: Knee trouble? I realize we don't have a lot of older Yorkies around here, but this poll is for those who own or who have owned Yorkies 8 years or older. I'm trying to find out how common knee problems are for older Yorkies. Do they all get them? Do most of them get them? Less than half? Few?

| When I had my first two yorkies, one developed a knee problem around 5 yrs., and the other never did. My two yorkies now are 4 and 5 yrs., and Baxter has mild LP and Snickers does not. So I guess in each case it was one out of two with knee problems.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Thanks for your comments, everybody. A couple people have told me recently that about 50 percent of small dogs have LP issues in adulthood. I was surprised at the high number and hoping to see if YTers found that to be true. Sounds like you're right at the average, Amanda!

| Ellie will be 8 in July and she does have mild LP in one leg. It was first diagnosed about a year ago but I'm sure she has had it for awhile.

| Kissy had grade 2 LP in one leg as a baby and had the surgery. She has had no other problems and she is almost 8. None of my others have LP at all. |

| I have a 10 year old with loose knees -- he's had it from puppyhood but the vet said that surgery is not necessary. He also drags his feet -- makes his front toenails bleed. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | My Shadow is 8 years old now, and he's been having the knee trouble for about a year now. It's LP, but we're not near the surgery stage yet. We can usually just "rub it back in place" if he has trouble. The vet says it's common and not to worry too much about it, but I try not to let him jump as much.
