Pet car seat is the only way to go. Bailey loves his. |
I answered other, because if we are going a short distance we do not crate. However, if we are traveling a long distance we crate because she likes to nap. |
in car I have 4 yorkies . Sugar rides in carseat , she gets sick if not in seat . Mercedes gets strapped to seat belt under sugars seat , cota and jazzy get strapped to seat belts in back . they love it . we only take all 4 if going to groomers or vet or park but this really works for us.;) |
Maximus is in his crate with the door shut and the crate is in the seat belt. I imagine no one expects to get in a car wreck when they leave out for the day, but there is always that slight chance. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I would be devastated if anything happened to him or one of my kids and they weren't in their seat belt. I have to deal with the flip side too. My dh says that injuries can happen because of seat belts. His brother was killed with his seat belt on. Broke his neck. Of course, he was drunk, and driving at a God awful speed when he hit an oak tree. Maybe he would have survived if he wasn't in a belt? Who knows. Wearing seat belts just makes me feel better. |
I have a car seat for Pao but haven't been using it. He doesn't like being in it and will bark non-stop. He wants to be on my lap when I am not driving and refuse to sit in his car seat strapped to the back seat :( or in the front seat when I am driving alone. I am planning to start training him to stay in it in the front seat if I am driving and then move on from there. |
I voted no. I didn't realise you could get pet car seats! We only go out in the car at weekends when DH is home because I don't drive, so I have both skinkids in the back with Twinkle sitting in the middle........I'm going to get her a seat - it seems stupid that me and DH have seatbelts, and I'm sooooo emphatic about the kids being properly secured into their booster seats and yet Twinkle is just loose in the car. I feel terrible!:( xxx xx |
I want to get my boys this stadium seating box that would restrain them but have not come up with the money yet. they love to be able to see out the windows when in the car. |

I made Ellie a car seat but don't like it. I just got one (Travelin' Dog) and will use it without the side straps. It seems like the side straps could do more harm than good. I don't like how with these restraints, they can still fly backwards a bit. I think I will put a pillow behind the seat. |
Yep...we have the Travelin Dog car seat from Petsmart..... :) |
I know it probably isn't the best idea, but I just let my furbaby lose in the car. She usually just sits on my lap curled up, or she's perked up on my arm looking out the window. Every now and then when the car stops moving, she'll hop over to the passenger seat to look out that window (and usually bark at the person if there's a car next to us) but for the most part, she behaves in the car. |
For those whose furkids are free in the car or are held on laps, please reconsider. I have done it for the longest time but then I got to thinking what would happen if Ellie got hurt because I didn't want to put her in a car seat. I would feel so guilty. Dogs can fly so easily if there would be an accident. Even if they are on your lap, what if you go unconsciencious? Then your dog has either flown through the windshield or got thrown up against something else or gotten squashed by you. Then they are free to be lose on the highway and I promise they aren't going to be the primary concern of the police or EMTs. It is much safer if they are somehow contained. If you use a crate, it needs to be buckled in somehow or those can fly too. |

I voted no... I'm a bad mommy... :( Sapphire just sits on my lap whenever we take her somewhere, which isn\'t often. And don\'t worry, I\'m not the driver. :p I think it\'s wrong for the driver to be holding their dog WHILE driving... |
I have also driven down the road and seen people with their really small dogs on their shoulder and the window down. I mean these little guys will jump and what happends if you have to slam on your brakes. My boy has a seat that he sits in. And he knows he is not allowed out when i am driving down the road. He MUST stay in his seat..:p |
bentley just sleeps in my lap while im driving. Im not going to waste my money on a car seat for him because he wouldnt stay in there anyhow! |
