| ![]() Quote: Lady needs digestive enzymes also because she is diabetic and her pancreas doesn't work properly. Not only doesn't it make insulin, diabetics are prone to pancreatitis. The Animal Essentials product has both probiotics and plant enzymes. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who uses this product. | |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() I'm at work and trying to recall the name of the one I used to use for Marcel - I believe it was Michaels Probiotic - and it was from a really good health food store here in Phoenix - it was kept refrigerated (as many need to be). They had a ton to choose from, but I liked this one the best. I bought this one *before* I had made contact w/ Susan Davis - if I had waited, I probably would have purchased hers as well as it has guaranteed potency and the FOS. (her probio doesn't have enzymes does it, Crystal?) This is a great site for learning about strains: Probiotics & Prebiotics - Acidophilus, Bifidobacteria, Align, Culturelle, VSL#3 You can see that Align is very good for IBS (and others). Here are some more that are generally considered better quality: The Environmental Illness Resource - Treatment - Nutritional Supplements - Probiotics & Prebiotics

Lady is diabetic, though, so her pancreas needs extra support since it doesn't produce insulin and is prone to pancreatitis. I would be interested in your opinion on it, though. I recently switched to it after a holistic vet recommended it to a member on another forum. | |

| ![]() Layla is on a lipase for her pancreatitis. The nutritionist explained it to me as if you are giving it to her- her pancrease won't have to work in over drive to produce it and thus she won't have an "episode" |

| ![]() I was just talking to Ellie's vet and she did say that human products shouldn't be used. She read it in an article (I guess it is new research). It has something to do with them not working on humans and dogs... They need their own. That means VSL #3 is out for us and that's the one I wanted to use. ![]()

| ![]() I would looooove to use yogurt instead of this pill garbage. I know it isn't as powerful but very healthy. I had some concerns about it being dairy and full of calcium because of Ellie's pancreas though.

| ![]() I told Layla's nutritionist that Layla was getting fat free yogurt and she said that was great- wouldn't bother her pancrease since there was no fat. But she only gets like 2 tsps a day- if that |

I can get fat free maybe but I think the calcium can set the pancreas off. It is more of an issue in Ellie's case because high bile acids can cause pancreatitis because I guess they are full of calcium and it irritates the pancreas. I wasn't sure if I should add to the load on the pancreas but I might just try because her numbers were so good...at least until I pick a product. ![]()
