I am enjoying reading all the responses and in some ways I can relate to all of them.


I was a cat person all my life,although I admired yorkiesI was afraid of dogs.I always liked them but was to afraid to get to close and then the poop from a big dog and the barking turned me off totally.

UNTIL......My cousin called me from Florida at a pet store looking at some pups(she's comfortable;)she didn't know alot about yorkies and when she said she had fallen in love with this litttle one they had there but didn't know if she wanted to spend that much I went crazy!!. I told her about the coat,their loyalty small size, I read her the whole nine,mind you I never had any experience personally with dogs other than the little ankle biters that use to chase me home:).

She got him and I begged:rolleyes: baby sat for a couple months till she made me get my own (I wanted him and no other one:()

I can relate. I have bipolar disorder and panic disorder. My boys calm me down or cheer me up (whichever end of the spectrum I am) at any time. As long as I have my boys, I'm alright. :-)

I got my first Yorkie after falling head over heels in love with my friends Yorkie/Oliver. She would carry him around in the front pocket of her bib overalls...what a sight for sore eyes. After we bought our house and actually had a fenced in yard...a dog was the first thing we wanted. I won the jack-pot at the local Bingo parlor...hubby told me I could buy whatever I wanted with the winnings...I wanted a Yorkie, and bought Spencer. We had him and loved him for nearly 12 yeas...when he passed away, our hearts were broken and we felt empty inside...so a long came Winston and the rest is history.

I don't really know....I have always loved them...their personalitites, their cuteness, etc.
I had only had ONE small dog since I have been married (a shih-tzu that we had to put to sleep, he was a rescue). I didn't want another small dog for a long time after that....but then I was looking around and thought...hmmm....Plus, at the time, I thought about having another child or fostering or something...DH told me to get a dog...:biggrin: that was an open invitation...and I got MOJO! :wub:

I guess first I had a friend with a cute yorkie, and that turned my attention to how perky and small they were. Once I had my first one, no going for another breed.. I've had 3 yorkies!! They are the best.

I wanted to show dogs. I didn't have one so I borrowed my uncle's shih-tzu. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to practice, so my mom said she would buy me a dog. She's allergic and we didn't want a dog that shedded anyway. We wanted a small dog as well. We researched and found out about the yorkie. We went in to the pet store that evening (Bad, I know. I shouldn't have gone to a pet store.) and picked up my little Sapphire. She's three years old now, and in February I'll have had her for three years. Best doggie ever!! :D

honestly I always liked how they looked but you get the whole stereotype of yippy and all that type of dogs, so never really had an interest in one. My mom got her girl and I really liked her BUT she was too "princess" for me. I love Penelope to death but she doesn't play and rather high maintence. Then my mom got her boy Preston. He is playful and more the personality that I liked. I fell in love with yorkies after being around Penelope and Preston. My ex said no way that he didn't want a high maintence princess dog. Then he was a round Preston and he agreed I could have a yorkie if we went to the breeder that Preston came from. I didn't want the teeny tiny ones, I knew some many health issues can result, but I wanted 5-7lb range. So I could carry her in bags and stuff. Aurora is now 10.5 lbs, more than I was expecting BUT I love her for what she is. Smaller would have been easier on me with my back probs with how much she loves to be held but I am more concerned about her being healthy.

Your baby is beautiful....we lived in Tupelo before moving to CA 9 years ago. I looked everywhere in MS for a yorkie....never found one. From whom did you purchase your furbaby? Get busy and bring home a little sister for Jamie.

I have always been a terrier fan...adopted a silky-skye mix back in the early 80's. I soon found out why the family wanted to get rid of him..he had a brain tumor and a jekyll and hyde personality...one second he was sweet and loving and the next he went into a fighting dog mode. It broke my heart to have to put him down because he bit a friend and he had to live in a crate..I did everything I could for him. In the early 90's I fell in love with a little Australian terrier in a wonderful pet store whose owners I knew very well. I was going thru a separation and needed something...and he was it. What a doll! We went everywhere together, and he was my little hiking and camping buddy as he was a very sturdy little dog! i had him 11 years before he suffered renal failure and I had to say goodbye. I was devastated. I have his ashes in a beautiful stained glass box my friend custom made for him. I also keep some in a vial that I take with me when I go hiking or camping. He still comes with us, my little Hobbes.

Then came Keighley...a sweet timid wire hair fox terrier..she was the runt of the litter and I scooped her up...my Mom had just died after years of being ill, and again, I needed something...and I still have her. She has a thyroid condition and is allergic to a lot of things including June Grass, soy products, poultry, etc. she is doing good at 11 years old.

We also have a yellow lab, Mesa. She is a doll and a really fun dog and loves to play with everyone. She tolerates Tasha very well! Then came Tasha....i wanted a tiny dog that I could easily take with me shopping and what have you. She loves to curl up with Mesa especially, Keighley isn't as receptive to the cuddling tho! She gets a funny look like what are you doing, kid! Move over! lol! She always curls up with Mesa, as a matter of fact she is curled up with her right now with that big 96 pound lab who is on my sleeping husbands' lap! So cute! this is a nightly thing! She sleeps with us too, loves to get right under the blankets. One night I woke up and couldnt find her, and she was all stuffed at the bottom of the bed, all cozy, silly girl! She is a very big presence for such a tiny dog! all packed full of love!

My DH saw a Yorkie at the gas station and fell in love. I was a "mini schnauzer person." He insisted we get a Yorkie and took it upon himself to find Zoeybear, next came Baby Chloe, and now he is bugging to get a third. I told him we need to look for a rescue next. We are going into escrow Monday AM for a new house with a great backyard. We should be set to start searching for a rescue in January. It is so funny because everyone is always trying to convince their DH to get a new Yorkie and I have to stop mine, or I would have 6 by now.:D

I wish I had your problem...lol. My husband wasn't too happy EACH time I bought home a new furbaby....I have three!!! If you're in S.CA, I have a great breeder!!! Can't wait to see your next baby!!!!

My daughter has asthma .... and pets are a no no ..... well until now ..... we have her for 2 years now and my daughter is FINE !!!!

I have always liked the way Yorkies look. They are just a beautiful breed of dog without question.

When I decided to get a dog, I looked into this breed first but after reading they're yappy and the cost for a puppy, I was completely turned off. But, I still couldn't shake wanting a Yorkie.

After getting Kali, my Chin, I knew she needed a friend. So I started looking at shelters, trolling Craigslist, and filled out an adoption application with the Yorkie rescue here in Colorado. I wanted to adopt a Morkie first, but they thought with my children, she wouldn't have been a good fit for us and recommended Jennie, my Chi mix. So we brought Jennie home and I thought, that's it for us. But I still couldn't shake wanting a Yorkie.

So, I continued to troll Craigslist and became disgusted at the scams involving Yorkies and some of the disgusting owners that had them. I mean, I know that they are popular, but finding a good home has to be more than just the money aspect. After not going on CL for awhile, I came across an ad to rehome a Yorkie. I figured what could be the harm, right?
Well, this couple had just had a baby and weren't giving Allie the attention she was used to and decided to rehome her. They didn't want a fee, just a good home and were getting discouraged because of the weirdos coming out of the woodwork just wanting a Yorkie. I didn't expect them to contact me because not only was the ad a couple of days old, Yorkies go fast. But I am thankful to everyone that was strange, mean, nasty, and off kilter because the paved the way for Allie coming to me. The couple felt that I was sincere and would provide her a great home. I have promised to keep in touch and should anything happen that I can't keep her, then to return her to them.

So after a week, I am sold on and in love with this breed. Allie is smart, brave, fearless, feisty, loving, sweet, adorable, small, amazing, etc., etc. You all have Yorkies so you know where I am going with this. If I'd been able to get Allie first, these other two would be Yorkies of a certainty. I wish that I wasn't at my limit on dogs in this city so that I could have another one as soon as I could get my hands on one. Allie has completely charmed our whole family. My daughter carries her around every opportunity she gets. Now the fights between the kids are about who is going to hold her next lol. I just completely love this little dog, we bonded immediately. It makes me feel kind of guilty because I didn't bond this fast with Jennie. It was just an instant love with Kali and Allie. And I've watched the Dog Whisperer and It's Me or the Dog about treating Yorkies like dogs, but how can I possibly resist picking Allie up and just showering her with love, especially when it is like she understands everything that I am saying to her. Or when she lays her little head against my chest, or just jumps up on me and starts giving me those little sweet kisses?

Yeah Yorkies, what great dogs they are right?

When my work had our grand opening (petshotel) I remember this couple coming up to me to make a reservation and the husband was holding this tiny yorkie in his arms and I absolutely fell in love. After I did my research on them, I did have my doubts since I've heard they're extremely hard to potty train and sometimes bark a lot, but I went with my instinct and got one anyways and I wouldn't have had it any other way. They're such fun, loving, playful dogs and don't shed which's a plus.
