I went to a home of a former co-worker's for a Christmas party, and she had a Yorkie. He was so fiesty, he barked at everyone and acted ferocious when they came in, then hopped from lap to lap collecting lovin' from everyone. He was silky and soft...and I fell in LOVE. |
Great Question! I loved reading everyone's responses. I have ALWAYS wanted a puppy, but my parents absolutely refused because our house is 95% carpeted (and most of that is white), so the closest I was able to get to a dog was a guinea pig. (Yeah, I know...a guinea pig doesn't even begin to compare to a Yorkie) LOL! So as soon as I got to college and found an apartment that allowed me to get a puppy, I did my research and absolutely feel in love with Yorkies. :luvu:They are the perfect size and great little companions, not to mention they are SUPER CUTE! So I made the best purchase of my life...little Bella this summer and I'm already planning on getting another! |
after a failed divorce and after that, another 4yr failed relationship i wanted something to love and take care of and just be mine.. i wanted a puppy to be with me at all times. got my lexi and shes perfect.. |

About January of this year I realized that I wanted a dog, I just wanted someone to give me companionship since I spend a lot of the time at the house alone. I asked my parents and the immediately said no, saying that a dog would ruin all the furniture and they shed all over the house, and that we had a dog (when I was 7) and no one took care of it. I did some research and was stuck between a yorkie and a Maltese. During my search, I went to a friends house and she has a Maltese but she kept barking and would bite, so that made me steer more towards yorkies. I insisted and I would look at the humane society, the paper, everywhere, everyday! One day I picked up the paper and saw a breeder and I contacted her. I am so glad I fell upon a great breeder and not someone just looking to make money. The next thing I knew a few weeks later I had little Dino running around the house...and the rest is history. -Buying a yorkie: best investment of my life |
What made me get a Yorkie ? Well, firstly I'd have to say that I love the long flowing silky hair.I'm a hairstylist and have always loved the long haired breeds, but especially the toy breeds. When I was a young teenager growing up, our neighbour across the street had a little yorkie female named Pebbles, she was so tiny and sweet and had a beautiful coat of long silky hair. She seemed to love everyone,I loved her personality and her sweet little disposition. From this moment on I loved yorkies. I got my first one in 1990 and had her for 13 years, when she passed away I couldn't imagine life without her. Even after a couple of years when I thought about getting another dog all I could imagine having is another yorkie.......which brings me now to Beatrice.I've had her for almost 3 months now and I can't imagine life without her now. |
I was seriously considering getting either a maltese or yorkie after college, but as the years passed by I was leaning more towards the yorkie. I love their looks. In addition, their small size and not shedding was definitely a plus. It was just the matter of convincing DH. However, once we bought the house, there was no excuse not to get one. :p |
I like this question. I had a old boss whos wife had a Shih Tzu. I thought she was sweetest, cutest dog ever! I looked up shih tzus and knew a lot about them and was going to get one. I wanted a dog that had hair since my family is allergic to fur. I guess i talked them up so much one day my mom and her hubby came home with one! So I decided I needed a different little dog with hair and started my search again. I fell in love with the Yorkshire terrier. After owning them now I am so happy with my choice. I just adore my boys so much! |
We have a lab,a chihuahua,a terrier(a rescue not exactly sure what he is)and then Chloe my yorkie.I love all my babies but I have to say Chloe has my heart, she started off with quite a pitbull attitude,,but now she couldnt be sweeter.I want another yorkie now and I dont see us getting anything else(if mamma aint happy nobodys happy)lol.I love yorkies ,,,personalities,,,cute faces,,,kisses,,,,,energy...............everything about them |
The no-shedding aspect of the breed as well as the cuteness factor! I think Yorkie puppies are the cutest. The small size is good for us too - and that they are quite smart. I did research online and when I read that Chihuahuas were ranked so much lower than Yorkies (I was thinking about a Yorkie-Chihuahua mix at the time) I decided for a 100% Yorkie. Very glad I did, I just love my little dog. :) |
My first little dog was a mix, (yorkie/chi) he looked just like a yorkie, but had kind of a snappish side. After losing him, I thought a purebred yorkie would help fill the void of losing him, but without the snappishness. I was right, I have had 6 yorkies since then and not one of them has been nippy or snappish at all! Easy to see why they are so popular! Martha mommy to 5 yorkies, a min pin, and a min dashund |
My husband and I saw a neighbor's little pomeranian pup and it was really cute but when I did research on the Internet, I found that pom's shed which is a "no, no" with allergies. I continued to do research and discovered that Yorkies do not shed. We were looking at Morkie pups but after reading a lot about Yorkies and their cute personalities along with seeing several belonging to other people while making the decision, we decided to go for the Yorkie. She is almost 4 mos. old and we are totally in love. She is a doll weighing in at something less than 2 lbs. |
1 Attachment(s) In May of 2002 we lost our dear Maltese, Jack. We were depressed and both of us cried whenever anyone mentioned Jack. My sister's friend had a female Yorkie that she could not keep anymore and my sister told her that we would take her. I insisted that I could not love a dog again after Jack. Chuck wanted her. So, we drove 2 hrs to pick up a very dirty, matted 2 yr old. It took several baths and some trimming to find a beautiful girl under all of that mud. She had never been to a vet or had any shots and did not play. We named her Maggie (photo below) & she's been with us 6 yrs now. Rocky is her son. Then came Sunshine 4 years ago and BlackJack is her son. |
