Do You Take Your Yorkie Shopping With You? In response to this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=106786 the OP wanted a poll to find out how many of us shop with our babies |
I chose option 4 because I have snuck Lacy into places a few times. I usually do not take her to places that I know she is not allowed such as grocery stores and restaurants but there have been times that I have snuck her in when I needed to. She goes almost everywhere with me |
I actually tried to sneak Jesse into a grocery store today. It didn't work. It was actually a test, because a friend of mine asked me to go shopping with her and was arguing with me that she has seen dogs there before. I didn't actually try to sneak in with him, I just carried him in. Security was all over me within minutes! I totally understand dogs not being allowed into restaurants or grocery stores, but I like to take him with me to clothing stores and anywhere like that. Luckily. here in LA, dogs are more welcome than children in most places. |
My answer # 4. One day I had a situation. I had to stop in QFC store just to buy a couple things. Of course, I don't take Jessica in store like those, but she was in stroller, and I decided to try. I zipped the stroller, and asked lady "may I come inside?". Surprisal, her answer was "why not"?! Please, come in !!! She was very nice and even told me how she shop with her pet. She said: "If anybody tells me: "don't you see the sign" no pets"", my answer: "Sorry, my dog is too small and cannot read yet" But I still afraid to go to grocery stores with her, either live her in car, so sometimes I just hide her. |
Well I chose #3 but I have accidentally taken mine into Walmart. I had been to PetSmart & needed to go to the pharmacy and wasn't even thinking about it. I have one of those carriers that looks like a purse, I always just put my wallet in the outside pocket anyway so I just walked right in. The girl at the pharmacy counter saw the little face peaking out and everyone had to come over & see but noone said anything about me having to leave;) |
I said #3 but mostly #2.....it depends on where you go in this town. I've had Izzy with me at Lowes, HomeDepot, furniture stores and the local flower nurseries. Have taken her to our favorite doggie bakery and of course the usual Petco or Petsmart. In the summer it's easier taking her places especially restaurants cause if you sit outside to eat they don't say anything to you. :D |
1 Attachment(s) I don't try to take Georgie EVERYWHERE but my husband and I travel a lot, always with Georgie. Sometimes we have to take him places we otherwise wouldn't. When we moved to NC he went house shopping with us and to the model homes when we decided to build. We took him to a furniture mall and other places. I totally understand indoor places that serve food not wanting pets inside. It is frustrating when we're seated next to a family with kids that are loud and rowdy and our furbaby has to stay home- he's much less disruptive then most children. When we took a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach we had a bit of trouble. They have a large boardwalk with restaurants (all with seating outside) and we had to try a few places befor we found one that would serve us. Even though Georgie was in his stroller. I believe Jeb Bush passed a law in Florida that dogs are allowed at any restaurant with an outdoor eating area. Does anyone know if that's correct? |
That was the plan but it didn't work out that way. To lug Buddy around just breaks my arm. I do push him in the cart threw the pet store for his food and treats. But that's about it. |
My Jess likes Petco. Sometimes I stop there only because it is like a fun for her, she smells everything, looks at birds..... maybe, I am crazy mom....:D |
I try to take Annika sometimes with me but not very often as I don't want Tiger to feel bad . . . mostly to the fabric store but Joann's just posted that they are now only allowing service dogs so Annika won't be joining me anymore :( :( when we do go to Seattle, I sneak Annika to restaurants all the time and she is as quiet as a mouse . . :) |
Tiger doesn't like outings? I have noticed you always mention taking annika. Is tiger more boisterios?(sp) Quote:

I've only snuck Mr. Biggs in a few times when I didn't want to leave him in the car and just had to run into Target or WalMart. Oh, and he's going to the mall with me tonight to get his daddy's B-Day Present :) |
I didn't vote, but I take mine shopping only sometimes....when I do not have too many errands to run. AND generally, they only go where they are allowed, as Mojo can not stand to be in a bag. |

I have one of those carriers that looks like a purse and have taken Katie just about every where except a restaurant. I'm too scared she won't be still in her bag. One time, I was at Pay-less shoes and put the bag on the floor and it kind of started to bounce on down the isle. |
Every where they are Allowed! I try to take all 3 of mine where ever they are allowed......Artie my male is the only one I really take Shopping, he will wait quietly in the Shopping cart and even sit in the Dressing Room while I am trying clothes on? But the other 2 females want to be carried and whine when their Public does'nt pay attention to them so it gets quite irritating! But I definitly don't take him into any place that does NOT allow Dogs, I don't try to sneak him in either! I personally feel grossed out if I see any Dog, in or out of a Bag, regardless of how cute or small it is? Inside any Grocery Store or any place with Food for that matter. I know I love my Dogs with all my Heart (Sounds corny but I can admit it to fellow Yorkie Lovers), but not everybody is a "Dog Lover", and I don't expect everyone to Love my Dogs as much as I do? So I don't think it's fair to sneak them into any place where they are not expected to be, plus I really don't care for the extra attention and rude comments from those who do not care for them? I don't like to see other peoples pets like; cats, ferrets or snakes wrapped around their owners neck either? Some things are really innapropriate in Public? |
I voted 3 becuase there was only a few times I took Tino into stores where I was skeptical that I could walk around with him. Lowes and and hardware store doesnt care, nor the obvious pet oriented shops. Wegmans however..BIG no no! They kicked me out in seconds! I just had to go to the customer service counter but they flipped out! I was kinda embarrassed becuase they talked at me like a criminal for just stepping in the door. I'll never do that again. However I have had instances where I'v called from the car if I had to grab something at a store, becuase I refuse to leave my little man in the car. |
i sneaked Tumi in to restaurants in nyc all the time. she is sooo quite and just sleeps in her bag. i sneaked her into Nobu in nyc once. we had 2 hr long nice dinner with friends and she was sleeping in her carrier the whole time. people never noticed since mine looks just like a purse. My hubby and i travel a lot and we always take the girls with us. i am so happy we are moving back to nyc in 2 months since it is a very pet friendly city!! we were in vegas a while ago and i really hate vegas..they are soooo not pet friendly.. |

Anyone know of a website that lists pet friendly stores? (besides the obvious pet stores) |
Number 3 for me... I often take Meka with me to stores, however, only ones that allow pets. Usually any place that doesnt sell food :) |
I don't really take Hannah in stores with me. I have taken her to wal-mart and lowes before, but I am afraid that they will make me leave. I take Hannah with me like to the bank or places where I can stay in the car or just run into the post office. |
I take Lucy everywhere with the exception of food stores (or Target/Wal Mart when we were in NC). We have so many pet friendly restaurants in my area that mostly we eat at one of them when we eat out. Even my favorite Sushi restaurant has a patio and Lucy gets to come! My town is fairly pet friendly...The more high end the store - the more they welcome furbutts! |
I posted a vote before I really read into the thread. I do take my dog a lot of places with me. Sorry. |
I take mine everywhere. I carry him in a puppy purse and like a previous poster said, just stick my wallet and cell phone in the side pocket. I marked #4 on the poll but it really wasn't intentional. When I 1st got him, we were at Target (that was intentional) and our friends called and wanted to meet us out for dinner. I had only had him a couple of days and would never want to leave such a little baby in the car - so I took him into the restaurant with us. He stayed in his puppy purse and didn't make a peep. I did feel guilty about it, but not enough to leave him in the car. PS- Nobody even realizes or notices him in his puppy purse. I definitely try not to display him as I don't want the attention. He is there with me b/c I have to work during the week and hate leaving him. BTW Star Bucks always gives him a treat when we go through the drive thru. Too fun! |
I take my boys to pet stores only. They're both teapots and can't be hidden in carriers. I'd take them more places if they didn't bark their little heads off at strangers though! |
WEll Gizmo only goes where they allow pets or where I know its ok... BUT when we first got him we drove to San Antonio and we decided to go to the movies so he went too.. we saw " Upside of Heaven" w/ Reese Weatherspoon... only kiddo I have ever taken to the movies.. when the lights went out I took him out of my bag and carried him in a blankey on my lap... aww he was soo wittle! |
:D :D Rocky and Romeo love to go for a ride and inside stores. I usually take them where pets are allowed. Places like Petco, and Petsmart, etc. They are so good when we go shopping. Rosie does pretty good, but sometimes doesn't want to sit still. It's funny, it's my boys that like to go shopping. :D Darlene |
Dexter LOVES going shopping with me! he especially loves when i go clothing shopping becuase he loves all of the attention from the sales ladies! hes such a ladies man  i like it to becuase everyone is super friendly to me and trats me like a VIP or something. lol. he doesnt like the trying on clothes part as much becuase he has to stay in his carrier instead of in my arms. little suck! love him to pieces!!! |
