Either brand, whether Nikon or Canon, will take excellent photos. It all depends upon which one feels right in your hands and has the lenses and other equipment that you are interested in. Then you have to look at the feature set of each camera. I was looking for a camera that has an excellent light meter, fast and accurate autofocus, and good low light ability. I also looked at how effective the external flash is. The lenses are the most important, and it might be better to spend less money on a camera and more on the lenses. I agree that the D7000 might be overkill. From what I've read, it is an amazing camera at an excellent price point for what it offers. It's not necessary to spend that much money if you don't want to or won't use what the camera offers, however. I also like the D3100 because I often don't want to carry a large camera with me. The D7000 has faster autofocus than the D3100, but unless you are trying to get photos of sports, you should be fine with the D3100. Canon has great models also at all price points. I don't think you could go wrong with any camera you choose, whether Canon or Nikon. The most important thing is having a camera that feels right in your hands and that you find easier to handle. Your focus should be on the photos you take, not having to worry about setting all of the camera controls. It will be easy to figure out which camera is better for you once you figure out what you like about each camera. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will be thrilled. |
