| Thanksgiving Costs 2012 by State This is a post copied from Chowhound but it got me thinking about the different prices by region. What are you paying to host Thanksgiving and how many people are you feeding? The original post is pasted below. Thanksgiving Costs -where you are, 2012 Just curious about costs for other hounds around the country! How many people are you feeding and what has been your food and drink costs this year? What part of the country? I am hosting 11 people this year and I have just returned from my "big" shopping day. I still have odds and ends to pick up though...I am not done quite yet.....and I also felt it necessary to restock some basic booze (vodka, gin, etc) "just in case" so that inflates my total by about 150 bucks. I am asking family members to contribute some extra wine, beer and pop. One daughter is bringing a special yam dish, otherwise, I am providing all the food-the apps, an immense dinner with 2 small turkeys and 4 different desserts, with some specialty items for 2 vegetarians and a gluten free which contributed to the costs. Also, 4 adult children are staying through the weekend, so I still need to plan a bit more for that. So far, my tally is right around $500.00 for 11 people in Washington state. What is yours? If you are not hosting but needing to bring "dessert for 12" or something, I am interested in those costs too.

| We got A LOT of stuff on sale last night (Phew!) and walked away relatively pleased. For 10 people we spent $300. This includes the turkey and ingredients for 2 desserts and 5 sides.

| Asking others to bring wine, etc, so that's a big chunk of savings. If I were to pick that up, it'd probably tack on another $100 for 6-7 bottles.

YT Addict | There will be 9 or 10 of us and I've probably spent around $250. No big drinkers in the family so I only bought 2 bottles of wine. I have a 17 lb. turkey and a turkey breast. We love our leftovers! I make most of my things the day before Thanksgiving and bake on the big day. So far I've made Gourmet Mashed Potato Casserole, Sweet Potato Casserole & Gravy. I'm taking a breather and then I will be making my Crockpot Stuffing, Cranberry Relish and Pumpkin Torte and I'm done until tomorrow. I even have the table set!!! Then I can spend the rest of the day playing with Maggie and Bogey!

| well... I spent about $120.00 or so at costco, another $90.00 at publix Monday and I had already purchased the turkey(s) and some stuff for side dishes. The turkey is the least expensive item for the dinner lol. I think the most expensive is the nuts and other items that go into the side dishes. It is really hard to factor the cost because a lot of items are purchased in bulk. We are having 5 people... thought we were having 6 but SOMEONE could not make it and I am sad.

Yes.. I get two small turkeys (more drumsticks that way lol) and the total for both (Target butterball) was .90 per pound so it was about $20.00. Ham from costco was about $15.00... nuts ...around $30.00 I just read about how dangerious walnuts are for our fur babies.. and nutmeg so please be careful everyone!

| We're hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year, feeding 14 people. Not sure about the total cost since everyone chips in. |

| $150.00 in incidentals at the store yesterday - almost but not entirely Thanksgiving-related - pies, egg nog, nutmeg, pumpkins cookies, muffins, some more decorations, clean-up things, and the take-out will be about $25.00 per, so $75.00 say for the 3 of us in Texas, guess $225.00 is slightly over the expense since there were some non-Thanksgiving things in yesterday's grocery bags.

| This year I didn't host Thanksgiving like I normally do. But I got two about 16lb. turkeys for only $3.00!!! Yep I had a reward cert. and if you spent $30. on groceries then a turkey up to 16lbs. was only 2.96. I think on average we spend about $200.ish

| around thanksgiving time, we got a turkey for super cheap (we actually bought 2 so we could cook one later this winter), bacon to wrap the turkey with, bag of potatoes, 2 squash, cranberry sauce, green beans, ground pork (pie crusts for pork pies) and bread stuffing, olive & Pickle dish, gravy. My brother & his girlfriend brought a dessert and I made a pecan pie and brownies. Got a couple bottles of wine and a 12 pack of beer. I had 10 people over for dinner, and I think it cost about $150 for everything. It helps when people help with bringing things. For Christmas we got a 12lb prime rib, which on sale was $85. Baking potatoes, sweet potatoes, sour cream, butter, green beans and slivered almonds. (kept it easy) and for dessert we had leftover brownies and other things we had made for a Christmas eve party, so no real desserts like pies or anything. I think that was about $150 for everything also. I am working on keeping meals delicious and simple. Luckily I have no special dietary requirements for anyone in my family so it was 1 meal that everyone eats. And this meal was perfect, compared to thanksgiving because everything was just in the oven for hours, instead of having to mix, prepare and all that, we just baked everything.
