btw.. I make a wonderful baked beans and I use can pork and beans as a base sometimes-- and I do put bacon on top lol
I mostly will not eat baked beans in resturants because they are so yuk!!
It's not that I don't like beans, it's that when I go to an event /party I like to see something different, something special. I can have beans and sloppy joes anytime. It's just nice if something different is being served.

Yeah, if you are bringing potato salad or macaroni salad or baked beans to a party, it better be the BEST I've ever had, just sayin...:winky:

EXACTLY! I don't want Golden Corral or Old Country Buffet ~ I would love to sample new dishes then I can ask you for the recipe :)

I guess I just like to see some new ideas and a little more effort than I tend to see at get togethers up north.

HERE I do tend to see more fresh seafood dishes and fruit dishes and even more healthy options that taste good and weren't just picked up at Publix.

I can't stomach another crockpot full of Velveeta and hamburger served with Tostitos :eek:

And the hostess always says ".....and of course the brisket for the men......" as she's showing you to the tables of party foods. I said 10 years but I'll bet it's more than 15 years or more that every nonformal party I have gone to - be it family or friends or business or church - has the huge flat pan of foil-covered brisket that the host at one point mentions how long he's slow-cooked it! It's always 9/10-plus hours! I don't think Texans know how to party without BBQ brisket! Only formal dinners or a very tar-tar party doesn't serve brisket "for the men" in this state!

This is because we live in Texas.... I get so tired of brisket. And if it's not cooked right, you taste it for days!

Every wedding ive been to in the last 20 years has served brisket.

just velvet and hamburger?? We add ro-tel, sour cream and sometimes refried beans to ours. And we don't use hamburger. We use deer meat.

Usually just Velveeta and ground beef. Somethings if the hostess is feeling jiggy she will serve with fritos scoops :cool:

I made cherry tomato BLT appetizers for Thanksgiving. They were gone in minutes! I think it was because they were different. And very yummy! I love Taste of Home recipes. Here it is. They are very very good! And a little different from the norm here. BLT Bites Recipe | Taste of Home Recipes

I took individual fruit "pizzas" to a get together last night, which I admit, is a bit of a tired standby, atleast in MI. Down here, no one knew what it was, and they gobbled them up in less than 15 minutes. Go figure!
