And I understand you not having PB&J but you are really missing out on the Key Lime Pie!

Long grain rice is "plain ole white rice" ...Americans tend to cook it with two cups of water to one cup rice. Hispanics cook it more often with a one to one ration of rice to water. My sil method is to put rice in rice cooker put water until it come upto first joint in finger when touching to the top of the rice. Of course it is most often mixed with beans.

Uncle bens and minute rice is either parboiled or precooked and dehydrated. "plain ole" white rice takes 20 minutes or so to cook... Instant rice more like 5.

I "learned" the difference when cooking for my ex sil who was from Japan. That is when I got a rice cooker! Couldn't live without one now

That is exactly my method for "measuring" out the liquid.

My rice cooker finally arrived on Friday..came in from work and decided to try a Mexican style rice with the basmati. I added cumin..orange bell pepper..salt...corn...black beans...onion..and chicken bullion ( after aggravating Lisa to death texting her for advice ) it turned out perfect!!!
Today I am cooking Jasmine rice and shrimp...I added carrot..bell pepper..curry powder..salt..peas and at the end added some spinach. I have my shrimp steaming in the basket of my rice cooker and added some curry powder and florida sunshine salt ( a gift from Lisa) I can't wait to try it!! Will update on how it turns out after we eat

My poor DH doesn't know what to do...he is a country cooking meat and potatoes kind of guy

They didn't neither of them like black beans..I left the beans out of the Mexican Rice and just added them to my portion.

see if you can find some plain quinoa ~ I, personally, have not seen the flavored that you purchased. Buy plain and fix it up the way they would like it.

The Jasmine rice and shrimp was a hit...we all loved it..even Ricky I know Walmart had the plain Quinoa and I am sure I can flavor it better than the flavored that I bought

When I get my jerk seasoning I'm going to make a basmati and jerk shrimp!! I'm so excited to try it! Of course I will be jerking too
