Mushrooms scare me... I must admit that I love the canned mushrooms and the little white ones at the grocery store, but I would never go wild shroom gathering. Here's why.... We lived in Michigan and boarded our horses out in the country. One day we received a call from the neighbor of the person we boarded with telling us that we would have to move the horses. It seems that the lady and her BF had gone wild mushroom gathering and she loved them so much that she took her son with her to gather some more. They came home and made a mushroom omelette, which turned out to be fatal for her and near fatal for her son - he wound up with permanent kidney damage. Apparently she and her son picked the wrong kind. This left a lasting sad memory... so no wild gathering for me. |

OMG so sad for the lady and her son and for your horses (almost) . I grew up in Michigan too. DB still lives there~ so does XH. If I was still married to my XH I may have to go mushroom hunting again in Michigan (see post #4  :hide2: :sidesplt: ) |

Good afternoon! :D Oh yum yum yum!!! I could live on mushrooms, nuts and cheese  My personal favourites are portobellos, stuffed with leeks and stilton then oven baked....don't really like button/white mushrooms apart from on pizza but in all honesty could eat them all day long ;) x |

I bet you could grow portobellos pretty easily there in the boxes like I did when I lived up north. Michigan weather is similar to your weather(except Michigan got more snow) Pine nuts? Stuffed in Mushrooms I mean. They are delicious! |
Lisa, you should see the size of my house!!!!! :D We could only just make room for Harry!!! ;) I've started binding his feet so he doesn't grow any more....:yelrotflm Love pine nuts too (apart from in pesto ;)!!) x |

Hmmm, straw mushrooms, I've had those in chinese dishes. They have a huh, soft, yet crunchy, and split-y texture to them LOL. Make sense? Of course not! |

escargot doesn't "taste" bad, but the texture is rough to deal with especially if you are told what you are eating before hand. i'd try them again though. didn't hate em' |
My Asian market sells HUGE bags of those black mushrooms used in Chinese food. They are sliced into "ribbons" and u soak and reconstitute for like $3 bucks. They are a great value ~ especially when u use the soaking liquid as well as the mushrooms :) |
