Anything Pickled! I love pickles of all sorts. Haha when I was typing sorts I almost typed sour! Just found a new brand of pickles at the swap meet. Hooper's pickles. Their chili version is so good. They are packed with whole chilis and lots and lots of dill. They do sell them at Mother's Markets and Whole Foods too, so I won't have to trek back down to the swap meet everytime I run out. I just also tried this delish kim chi at our Flame Broiler. I usually don't care for kim chi bc it isn't sour enough for my taste, but this one was great! Sour, salty, spicy, crunchy and cold! :) One of my favorite chinese pickled things are preserved mustard greens. They also have preserved cucumbers but they are heavy on the soy sauce and sugar, so if you've never had them before, they aren't like regular pickles, but so good with congee (rice porridge). I also find it funny they call it "preserved" and not "pickled" as I'm sure most of these jars of veggies stay on the shelf of the chinese market for ages! Preserved like mummified? LOL What are your favorite pickled things? Recipes too if you got 'em!:) |
I love this recipe from Alton Brown. I cut the sugar in half, after many tests. I just like it better that way. Also I don't use champagne vinegar, it's just too expensive. Kinda Sorta Sours Recipe : Alton Brown : Food Network |
I love my grandma home canned dill pickles..I don't have her recipe, but I know she uses lots of dill, garlic and I think alum and of course apple cider vinegar, but don't quote me on the spices..lol They are very crunchy and spicy. I also love pickled okra and always made it when I use to have a garden. I don't use a recipe, but found this one which sounds almost identical to how I made mine. I used apple cider vinegar though. Does the okra still have the gooeyness inside after it's been pickled? |
I'm a pickled fan myself. Love anything pickled I have ever tasted! |
How about pickled pig's feet? We used to have them in gallon jars when I was a kid, but I don't remember much about them. |
Never had pickled pigs feet. I would like to try it. I like pig skin and pig fat. LOL |
LIME Pickle!! My absolute fave! It's a must have with my curry dishes :D I have made lime pickle myself in the past but it wasn't as good as in the Indian restaurants. Pataks brand isn't bad ;) |
pickles is one of the few things i dont like. Theres only one kind i like, or should i say i love them ... i love half sour pickles |

I have never heard of half sour pickles. Are they just not very sour at all?? |
