Kitten Watch----help!! Today while browsing through the local paper (I HAVE TO STOP DOING THIS!!) I found an ad for a male and female Himalayan cat for a very cheap price..me the fool went out to see them. The house was very run down...had dogs EVERYWHERE and himmy kittens running around. The male was VERY unsocialized and mean..the female was scared and VERY pregnant..I went home to think this one over..as this was a two for one deal and I already have two cats. I called back and said I will take the female but sorry not the male...she agreed and I went and picked up the poor thin mommy and brought her home. She is very scared right now..hiding out in a room I quickly set up just for her. The lady I got her from dosent know when she is due but thinks anytime??? Anyone have any advice...as far as how to prepare for these kittens??? I have never had a litter before and know that cats are pretty independant I think when giving birth...does anyone know a site that shows a cat giving birth and more details?? Thanks, Dawn |
not to much help but here is a video http://youtube.com/watch?v=wgnIlqBZ6Ew also try to leave her to herself at all possable they don't like human help at all . |
Very scary! I'd keep her in a large pen that she can't get out of. You don't want her having kittens somewhere you don't know about. Also, a semi-dark place would be good. Don't know about any websites, but keep an eye on her. Sometimes, cats need assistance as well. I remember being in high school and our Manx was having kittens in the laundry room. I went in to check on her and one kitten was stuck in the birth canal. I gently pulled it out and went back to the living room. Just a few minutes later, she got up and came to the living room looking for me because the final kitten was stuck as well. Cats can tire out just like a dog. Good luck! |
BTW way I was in a hurry but I think it is great what you did for that poor mama kitty and I hope all will turn out ok for you. |
Started thinking...since the cat doesn't know you well, she may not want your help...but I'd stick around in case she does. Good luck! |
Thank you girls..I never thought of looking on youtube..Im terrible at trying to find info on the web..so thanks!! She is in a very quiet room with all the necessities for tonight...she is friendly with me when I go in there...very loving to me...but scared none the less. I can feel the babies in her belly so I am assuming she is pretty close!! She is on a crappy walmart brand cat food...is it safe for me to change her food?? She is soooo thin for a big pregnant mommy... Dawn |

I know you want to change her food but you may want to just add a little tiny of good stuff in for a bit I know my cat gets really bad tummy and stuff if I change anything. And I am sure you wouldn't want mama to have that... I will look at google for more info for you. |
When my sisters cat had babies she went and actually woke my sis up to let her know she was in labor. We were right beside her the whole time. |

kittens Keep an eye out. The first c-section for me was on a persian cat. She had 7 kittens. She delivered all but the last one. Had her spayed at the same time. Feed her up if she is in such bad health. Make sure she gets plenty of iron. Most unhealthy, under-fed moms are anemic. Liver is a good source. Good luck, Lynn |

You are a wonderful person for taking her home with you    . |
Hi Im so glad you took her in, Im sure she will do fine being its not her first litter. Our cat always loved the dark closets to have her babys in. I would just keep and eye on her, but cats seem to spit them right out. I would give her a little nutrical and add a little kitty food in with her reg food. maybe a little chicken to fatten her up a bit. I would also keep the other cats away from her during birth and after. |
