But if either one of the parents is a carrier of a recessive color, then some of the kittens could be a carrier of the recessive color. But they'll still look seal since it is the dominant color. They will only be a recessive color if both parents carry a recessive gene and the kittens inherit both of those recessive genes. Like my Kira who is a seal point had a seal point father and a lilac point mother (lilac is recessive). So she most likely has a dominant seal gene and a recessive gene, although Himalayan genetics are pretty complicated so it can't be explained that easily. My Sophie is a chocolate point. Her mother was a lilac point and her father was a chocolate point so she has two recessive genes. Somehow lilac and chocolate genes are related but both recessive. All the kittens in the litter were chocolate, lilac, and lilac-cream - all recessive colors. Getting into exact colors gets really really complicated and I don't know enough about it to tell you how each color is brought about, but I do know that some colors are dominant and some are recessive. |
You sure know your stuff girl...If I only knew half Id be happy...I had to re-read that over and over but I get it somewhat now...how cool!! I read alot about yorkies recessive genes on here but can never follow it...now I understand a bit more..thanks!! Dawn |

Cute kitten pictures!! Look at all those white kittens..funny that both mommy's had white kittens lol...Ive always wanted a pure white cat with blue eyes...but hardly even see them around..unless they are persians that is.. Dawn P.S. NO KITTENS lol |
I keep checking back to see if theres kittens yet. lol |
Not yet lol...I think she is going to be pregnant forever...hmmm whens the next full moon? Usually hopsitals are packed with deliveries on a full moon...maybe that will work with Flower too...or maybe she needs a bumpy car ride lol.. Dawn |
when my cat was getting close to having her kittens she would discharge. A week before delivery the discharge would be clear and 24-48 hours before delivery the discharge would turn pink and i could squeeze her nipples and see milk come out. If she trusts you enough to touch her belly you could check her "stuff" and see if she is discharging. If she won't then when you are petting her take some tissue and wipe her. When it was time to deliver my cat would sleep right next to my neck under my arm. She would not let me leave her side when she was in labor, she would litterally scream, (since she's part siamese her scream sounds like she's dying), She loved to have her babies in dark places but I had to be there close enough for her to touch me. The first litter was under the bed (yeah I had to crawl under the bed with her), the second i was smarter and blocked under the bed so she had them in my hubby's dresser drawer lol! Third was in the closet and the last was under my nighttable which I had covered with a blanket so it was dark. she is spayed now thank goodness but I miss having a kitten here so much! |
She loves to sit on my lap and I can touch the sides of her belly but if I touch her under the belly she clamps on to my hand lol...she seems to be having some runny diareah tonight...will keep an eye on that..she is eating tons too and I think from what Ive read they stop eating all together before the kittens are due...luckily in the room she is in there is not much to hide in..she has a dark closet with a box in it which she loves..lots of toys and a scratching post and kitten hide out thingy..
