I'll keep posting new pictures of mine on here :) I keep checking every day to see if the babies are here yet. Seal point is a dominant color so it will all depend on if the parents are carriers of any other color.

For instance, say the Mom has one seal point gene and one recessive color gene and the father has two seal point genes, all kittens will be seal point and approximately half the kittens will be carriers of the recessive gene. Same thing is mother has two seal genes and father has one seal and one recessive.

If both mother and father have all seal genes, all kittens will be seal and have genes for seal.

But say Both the mom and dad have one seal gene and on recessive gene, approximately 3/4 of the kittens will be seal (with 1/2 being carriers of recessive gene) and 1/4 with have both recessive genes and will be the recessive color.

So it is possible to get colors other than seal if there are other colors in the cats' lines

That is soooo cool...too bad I didnt know more about the parents and ancestors so I knew but I guess it will be known soon enough...so if they are all seal then they wont carry the recessive gene for another colour? It would be neat if other colours showed up but seals are pretty too!! I am so happy that you will add more photos..I love looking at them!!

Thanks,
Dawn

If the mom and the dad both had two seal point genes then all the kittens will be seal point without carrying anytype of recessive gene. All the kittens will have two seal genes as well.

But if either one of the parents is a carrier of a recessive color, then some of the kittens could be a carrier of the recessive color. But they'll still look seal since it is the dominant color. They will only be a recessive color if both parents carry a recessive gene and the kittens inherit both of those recessive genes.

Like my Kira who is a seal point had a seal point father and a lilac point mother (lilac is recessive). So she most likely has a dominant seal gene and a recessive gene, although Himalayan genetics are pretty complicated so it can't be explained that easily.

My Sophie is a chocolate point. Her mother was a lilac point and her father was a chocolate point so she has two recessive genes. Somehow lilac and chocolate genes are related but both recessive. All the kittens in the litter were chocolate, lilac, and lilac-cream - all recessive colors.

Getting into exact colors gets really really complicated and I don't know enough about it to tell you how each color is brought about, but I do know that some colors are dominant and some are recessive.

You sure know your stuff girl...If I only knew half Id be happy...I had to re-read that over and over but I get it somewhat now...how cool!! I read alot about yorkies recessive genes on here but can never follow it...now I understand a bit more..thanks!!

Yeah we did, But he kept them in the garage, Hubby and son both have asthma. But I spent a lot of time out in the garage watching those babys. its so fun at that age to watch them play. I would have a house full if I could, we did keep the little black and white one in, but it disapeared one day when it went out. Hubby would stand out in the yard and yell for it for months, I think the neighboors took it.

Not yet lol...I think she is going to be pregnant forever...hmmm whens the next full moon? Usually hopsitals are packed with deliveries on a full moon...maybe that will work with Flower too...or maybe she needs a bumpy car ride lol..

when my cat was getting close to having her kittens she would discharge. A week before delivery the discharge would be clear and 24-48 hours before delivery the discharge would turn pink and i could squeeze her nipples and see milk come out. If she trusts you enough to touch her belly you could check her "stuff" and see if she is discharging. If she won't then when you are petting her take some tissue and wipe her. When it was time to deliver my cat would sleep right next to my neck under my arm. She would not let me leave her side when she was in labor, she would litterally scream, (since she's part siamese her scream sounds like she's dying), She loved to have her babies in dark places but I had to be there close enough for her to touch me. The first litter was under the bed (yeah I had to crawl under the bed with her), the second i was smarter and blocked under the bed so she had them in my hubby's dresser drawer lol! Third was in the closet and the last was under my nighttable which I had covered with a blanket so it was dark. she is spayed now thank goodness but I miss having a kitten here so much!

sweetr72 09-22-2007 05:28 PM

She loves to sit on my lap and I can touch the sides of her belly but if I touch her under the belly she clamps on to my hand lol...she seems to be having some runny diareah tonight...will keep an eye on that..she is eating tons too and I think from what Ive read they stop eating all together before the kittens are due...luckily in the room she is in there is not much to hide in..she has a dark closet with a box in it which she loves..lots of toys and a scratching post and kitten hide out thingy..
