in the 1930's, the Himalayan originated from a cross between a Persian and a Siamese. The goal was to get a long-haired cat like the persian with the color-pointed color of the siamese. With the intial cross, you'd get a solid, short haired cat because short hair and solid colors are dominate. So kittens from these litters were bred together until you got long-haired color-pointed cats. The Himalayan eventually became its own breed, recognized by the CFA in 1957. A long time ago they didn't have the extremely thick, long-haired coat and extreme flat face like they do today. The himalayan was bred back to the persian several times to get the cobby body, long thick hair, large head, large round eyes, and extreme flat face. Eventually they looked just like the persian in body-type with a color-point pattern. In 1984, the CFA combined the Himalayan and persian breeds - Himalayan is a color division under the persian breed.

It took a lot of very selective breeding to get that extreme look to the show cats of today. Without selective breeding, there area a lot of himalayans and persians with longer faces and shorter coats. So Flower could very well be full-Himalayan, just resembles the past Himalayans more than the current look of them.

Anyway, whether she's a full Himalayan or not, she's a pretty kitty cat, and I hope the birth goes well. I'm looking forward to updates. I love having YT to talk about my yorkie, but I wish there was a site to talk about HImalayans. I love talking about my cats too!

HaHa..I love that picture! He's cute. He reminds me a lot of Kira, my seal point...well, when she had more hair. She has bad allergies and scratches a lot so her hair is pretty short right now. It's trying to grow back since I changed her food a few months ago

What what an extensive amout of information...thank you!! I am so excited about the kittens now...last night I was worried but after reading alot of different information about birthing I am a bit more at ease..I keep walking around the house giggling..my husband thinks Im NUTS lol..but I can tell he is pretty excited too! We havent had this experience before so its kinda neat..of course I dont want this experience ever again lol but since she is already preggers I will enjoy every last minute of it!!

I have been looking for a site dedicated to himalayans and cant find one..I was going to ask if anyone else knew..I am on a wonderful ragdoll forum but its not the same lol...maybe Ill keep looking...if I were more computer savy Id start a himmytalk.com site lol...

He is a funny guy thats for sure!! Very quiet and to himself. He lived with an old man for 5 years and the gentleman got sick and couldnt care for him so we took him in so we could rehome him...but he was so sweet and funny that we had to keep him for ourselves!!! Then I needed another cat ya know and got Hope...she is a blue lynx mitted raggie...she is a little shy but LOVES to play with the dogs...in a way she is more like a dog than a cat...hopefully after Flower gets the ok from the vet they can all meet and get along...I will probably let her stay in the bedroom until the kittens are born so she dosent get too stressed out from all the other animals..

This is Maggie our rescue -- we are not sure what her breeding is but wonder how you tell a Rag from other cats -- is it just their personality or something else.

Maggie is so pretty! I love all the color-pointed cats with blue eyes. I'm not a ragdoll expert so I couldn't tell you for sure. She looks like a lot of the ones I've seen though. A Ragdoll is a specific breed of cat but I don't know the characteristics like I do with the Himi

I think Flower should do just fine with the birth. She's had kittens before so she's an experience mom. And since she doesn't have the extreme persian look (ie. BIG head..LOL), the kittens shouldn't have problems passing. I'd just keep a good eye on her.

I know when I was a kid, we had outside cats that had kittens (I don't know why we didn't spay them...) and they would always have all but one pretty quickly. Then they would take a break for an hour or so before having the last one. I'm sure it doesn't always work like that, but that's how our cats did it. Our cats never had any problems with birthing.

You have yourself a bi-colour ragdoll!!! What a beauty!! Ragdolls are generally what their namesake is...floppy in your arms like a ragdoll and VERY big cats!! They take 3 years to mature to their full size!! What a great raggie you have there!! Well today was an adventure!!

I went and checked on Flower at 3am..she was resting comfortably in her box in her room safely tucked away...but hubby said this morning she was flipping out in the room crying and scratching on the door..he went to check on her and she ran out of the room..he tried to get her but she scratched him really good..ouch..and took off..we searched for her for 2 hours!!! We checked the duct work with flashlights...everywhere!! I was almost in tears!! Then we found her in my daughters stuffed animal toybox!! She hissed and spit at me so I covered her with a towel and took her back to her room...all day she has been resting and looks realllllly ticked off when I go see her..different from the sweet cat she was yesterday!! Oh well I guess I was bitchy too at the end of my pregnancy!! lol..

Aww..she's probably getting really uncomfortable and looking for that spot to have her kittens.

Are there signs that she is going to be giving birth like there are with dogs?? I cant check her temperature thats for sure LOL...
