YT 2000 Club Member | Our Beagle Abby needs some prayers please. On Dec. 20 she with diagnosed with Beagle Pain Syndrome, also called Steriod Responsive Menigitis. Beagle Pain Syndrome | Understanding This Disease Beagle pain syndrome painful and difficult to diagnose - Knoxville dog health | Examiner.com The first week of steriod and pain medicine treatment (tramadol) she showed signs of improvment, however when we tried reducing her steriods down she relasped and relasped in a bad way. The vet increased the steriod treatment to 3 a day now and changed her pain meds to a form of lyrica for dogs because the tramadol was taking longer to kick in and wearing off quicker than it should. She is having "epsiodes" 2 sometimes 3 a day and they are awful to watch her go thru them. If she doesnt not show improvement over the weekend, we and the vet have decided that it would be best to put her down. She is only 8 years old and a huge part of our family. Its not a descison we want to make. Please keep her in your prayers that she can pull thru this. Thank you all in advance.

YT 2000 Club Member | Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers. She has been responding better to the pain medicine and is not having as many spasms. Her worse times seem to be first thing in the morning and early evening. I was hoping the medicine would stay in her system a little longer than the tramadol, but once it starts working you can definitly see she is more comfortable. Ive been seeking advice from specialists from the UK who have been directly dealing/researching Beagles with SRM to see what they thought/recommend as far as her treaments and her recovering becsuse of her age and the are leaning more towards it being a disc issue not SRM and they recommended doing spinal tap, MRI, blood work, xrays to rule out one or the other. We could also take her off the steriods, treat her with a higher dose of the pain medicine and keep her crated until she heals if we can not afford the testing. Im going to request an xray and more than likely get a second opioion this week (weather permitting, artic cold temps and feets of snow) before we make any desicions. Until then i will keep her warm, comfortabled and very loved. Please keep her in your continued thoughts and prayers.

YT 2000 Club Member | Small update... Yesterday I spoke with a vets office that I use on occassion, mostly for emergencies because they are closer than my regular vets. The vet I spoke with agrees to that its probably a disc issue. That treating her with the medicines she is on is fine, however giving her back her tramadol along with the other one would make her alot more comfortable, not sure why my normal vet didnt recommend this? Not only did she not recommend it, she had abby on the wrong dose, she should of neen taking a whole pill instead of a half.. no wonder she was in pain. Ive made an appt. for friday for another workup/second opioion. Thank you all again for the prayers! They are working!
