| Good-bye Calico Barn Kitty Just said a say good-bye to one of our old barn cats. Calico Kitty was a feral cat we adopted from Sterile Feral between 14 and 15 years ago. She was one of four cats we adopted at the same time to guard the barn against mice and rats. Although she didn't like humans she loved her some mouse and faithfully performed her job. It always surprised me that she would hunt because she certainly didn't "need" any extra food . It is so sad to lose such a faithful, even if unfriendly, worker. May you ever rest in peace, Calico Kitty and have an endless supply of kibble and a mouse or two for variety. |

| I am sorry for your loss. I giggled at your description of an "unfriendly worker." Rest in peace, Calico Barn Kitty.

| I am sorry you lost calico kitty. It sounds like she had a wonderful life. Do you have other barn cats? We have a few feral cats around here that we feed. They always have a special place in our hearts.

| Thanks all for your kind remarks. It's funny, I don't particularly "like" cats in general, but I get attached to the barn cats - I mean, we don't get physical very often, but I enjoy watching them run around and play. The last of the old barn kitties, The Gray Cat (can you get a feel for the way we name our barn cats?) caught a huge mouse. She brought it's lifeless body into the feed room where I was working on getting the horse's food out and proudly ate it's head and left the rest of the body for me. I told her no thank you that perhaps Percival the Possum would enjoy the little carcus if he shows up tonight. BJ we do have four young barn cats - our DIL's cat was scheduled for a spay and you guessed it - the big Orange Feral Tom did his part to bless us with four new barn cats. Rest assured Momma Cat and the four little ones have all been spayed. Last edited by chattiesmom; 11-06-2013 at 04:35 PM. |
