| My Lab just ate a whole apple... Should I be worried? Hey everyone. I was busy cleaning the kitchen and I didn't notice a small green apple fell off the table. I heard my 1.5 year old black lab chomping on something... the apple! He wouldn't listen to my "drop it" command. He ended up eating the whole apple. I know from experience with my yorkie that apple seeds can be dangerous and poisonous. My lab is much larger and I don't think he had time to chew the seeds- it went from a whole apple to pretty much gone in a few chomps. :-( I'd love to get some feedback about how worried I should be and if I should induce vomiting-- or wait to see if it comes up/out on it's own... Thanks so much for your kind words and thoughtful advice!!!

| Dunno but I find 9. Apples are wonderful crunchy treats for your dog. Apples with the skin on are full of plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that are thought to be protective against some types of cancer in humans. They are a source of vitamins A and C and fibre. Apple seeds, however, contain cyanide so your dog should not be allowed to eat the core. Though the effects of a few apple seeds will likely not harm your dog, the deleterious effects can accumulate over time if allowed to eat apple seeds regularly I think he's okay. He may have soft stool but I really dunno. Big dog. Little dog maybe. Call the vet and see?? Last edited by ironmike86; 09-28-2012 at 06:48 PM. |

| I have a Fuji apple tree in my yard & my Wolfhound mix eats them all of the time & has never gotten sick. It's Impossible to keep him from the tree & he has done this for yrs so I don't think 1 apple will hurt your dog. |
