| Meet RJ I didn't even notice this section of the forum until just now! I'd like to introduce you all to Lilly's brother, RJ. He's a purebred German Shepherd Dog and is 5 1/2 years old. I have had him since he was 6 months old. He is an owner trained service dog and is with me 24/7. Although he's younger than Lilly, he's her big brother <3

| RJ is just gorgeous! What an awesome dog. I have loved German Shepherds all my life. They are so smart, and I know Lilly must be very proud of her big brother. P.S. Does RJ stand for something?

| Thanks guys He is amazing at what he does for me and I couldn't have asked for a better partner. Yes, RJ does actually stand for something. It's short for "Ricky Junior" because I named him after his sire that I loved so very much. His sire was a German import. The breeder had gotten Rick when he was 8 years old. He had just retired from working and she was going to use him for breeding. After having him with a few different females and nothing resulting, she took him to the vet for a sperm count. The results came back and the vet told her that Rick was sterile. She was so upset but was already in love with Rick so opted to just keep him as a companion. Well, one of her American bred bitches had come into heat and this girl was not nice to the other females when she came into heat. Not wanting her to be entirely alone, she put Rick in with the bitch and though nothing of it when she caught the two of them tied. When the bitch started getting rounder, the breeder was quite confused because the only male that had been around her was sterile Rick. Taking the bitch to the vet, she had xrays done. Sure enough. The bitch was pregnant... by Rick!!! Although it was a totally unplanned litter, she didn't have the heart to have the litter aborted, especially since it would be Rick's only litter ever. When the litter was born, she was thrilled with one particular pup and just knew that he would go to a great home. She had decided that ALL the pups would be placed on spay/neuter contracts and, even though she wanted to keep the one particular pup, she opted to place him up as available as well but only because she really didn't want a german/american cross in her lines. One of the boy pups was purchased by a friend of mine. He showed promise for being a possible Seizure Alert dog to replace her 10 year old german shepherd girl. The other pups went fast as well... all except 1. No one wanted the almost solid black pup because, well, because he was almost solid black. The breeder was going to go ahead and keep him as a pet. My best friend's sister just happens to be really good friends with the breeder. So my best friend went to the breeder to talk to her about me. See, I was searching for another dog to train to take my first Service Dog because I was retiring him. When my best friend called me and told me that she might have a pup for me, I was hesitant at first. But I went ahead and drove to the breeder's house to meet my friend there. The breeder asked me a few questions, including if I minded having to have the pup neutered. Of course I didn't have a problem with that as I believe in spaying/neutering, plus I am so not up for the challenge of having an intact male Service Dog. Just the thought of that makes me shudder and I envy those who are able to have control over such dogs. It's just not my cup of tea. Anyway! After she had asked her questions of me, she asked me if I had any questions for her. Now, being totally honest, the main question that I had for her was "how much is the pup?" Her pups run anywhere from $1500 to $3500 because she does import from Germany and does not cross her German dogs with her American dogs, so I was sweating it there. Before she answered my question, she asked me if I minded not getting papers with the pup. I told her no I didn't mind at all because I was past my interest in showing dogs and I had no intentions on breeding. After I answered her, she looked at her husband and told her to go get the remaining pup. I was still sweating it, wanting to know how much this pup was going to cost me. Her husband walked in the door, set the pup down and he ran right passed her to jump into MY lap. I could see a little bit of hurt on her face because he was already 6 months old and the two of them had quite a bond. I could also see the tears welling in her eyes because, as I said, she was going to go ahead and keep this pup as a house companion. After what felt like a really long time to me, but was only 5 minutes, the breeder told me to take him home. I could only blink at her a few times before asking her what I owed her for him. She told me "absolutely nothing so long as you neuter him and keep in touch with me every so often." Holy crap!!! I couldn't believe it! She GAVE me this pup! And not just any pup, but a RICKY pup! Rick was 11 years old when that litter was born and has since passed away due to age. All of us miss him to pieces as he was the best dog ever. But I have one of his children and couldn't be happier. I had RJ neutered as soon as he turned 1 and have kept in contact with his breeder over the years. RJ is now 5 1/2 years old and I've had him since he was 6 months old. Yikes... I so totally rambled, but I can't help it when it comes to telling the stories of where my dogs have come from XD

| Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments about my boy <3 He's totally digging all the attention Quote:
RJ is, actually, protective of her. But he wasn't at first. When I first brought her home, she hated him so much. He had come over to just sniff her and she lashed out at him, biting his nose and making it bleed. I couldn't help but laugh. Now, though, they're much better friends than they started out to be
