Anybody have an Akita or other large breed?

I'll admit, my biggest concern with getting a Yorkie was our Akita. She super sweet and gets along fine with our cats, but she doesn't realize how big she is sometimes I was a little nerotic the first few days we had Alice home (I wouldn't even out her on the ground unless the Akita was in a "sit - stay") but my dh got me to relax and now they're great friends I LOVE when big dogs and little dogs are buddies Here's some pics of the 2 of them and of Miya the Akita by herself in all her beauty

How cute! I just love that first picture. It is darling. The big dog-little dog thing can work if the big dog has the right personality and training. A long time ago we had that combination. The big dogs are usually very protective of the little one's.

Thanks Miya's really sweet, especially for an Akita, since we socialized her like crazy her first year. It's cute, when Alice gets scared of something and can't come to me (like when I'm vaccuming, lol) she runs to Miya

LOVE IT sooo cute It seems mostly common for people to have dogs of all about the same size range, so I love to see pics like this When I worked as a tech we had clients that had a Chihuahua and a big Lab and they were such good friends the owners requested that we kennel them together when they were boarding. Vet made them sign a waiver LOL, but it was the cutest thing ever how gentle and loving the lab was with the chi

We have two Yorkies, Darwin & Mabel and Zain, our 3/4 Pyrenees/lab mix. Mabel loves Zain and doesn't give him a break. We are always watchful as Zain is around 130lbs and Mabel is just about 4lbs. Darwin and Zain get along nicely too but they don't interact as much. Love your pics!

GREAT pics. So adorable.

I don't have a large breed myself but I have dog sat for a Rottweiler since he was 8 weeks old and Jackson and him are great buddies. I usually walk them together when I can so he sees him a few times a week.

First pic, the Rottie was still pretty young. Second was when he was 8 months old. He's now over a year and about 110lbs.

We just recently added a 12 week old standard Poodle to our family. At first everything was fine, but now I have concerns. The standard Poodle weighs 19 pounds and he and our little 5 pound Yorkie love each other. However, he has started playing much to rough and I am afraid he will really hurt her, not intentionally, but I have to protect her. I don't know how to handle this. I don't work and of course I don't ever leave them alone for even a minute.

Hmm, I had the same problem at first too, Miya never tried to hurt Alice or anything, but the first week or so she wanted to play with her and didn't understand that "pawing" Alice was bad. It's different here since Miya is 3 years old and we taught her what "nice" means when she was a puppy (for gently taking a treat from us instead of grabbing it and she liked to chase our cats too) so I just had to tell her that every time Alice went over to her and she learned quickly that she has to be gentle with her. Since your Poodle is still a puppy, it's gonna be a harder. I'd work alot with the Poodle to teach her "nice" - with Miya we would ask for a command and when we went to give her the treat if she tried to snatch it excitedly, we'd put it back and tell her "nice" and keep doing it untill she'd gently take it, then praise. Also, I've seen some really hyper standard poodle puppies, so maybe take him for a really long walk before letting him and your Yorkie have suppervized play, correcting any rough actions and praising when he's gentle. You probably have kind of a long road here only because the Poodle is still a puppy, but on the plus side, he'll learn how to treat your Yorkie right from the start, it's just going to take some work on your part. Work hard with your Poodle on obedience, I'd try a puppy class too, and they'll be ok. And of course, like you said you're doing, keep a very close eye on them, even though I trust Miya I still don't leave them alone unsupervized.
