| Well, I've had friends with both GSs & Great Pyrenese, and I personally would not go with either of them. My friend who had the GS, her dog had a genetic disorder (I know...can happen with ANY breed), but it scared me away from them. The one with the great pyrenese, he is like the most obnoxious dog ever (second only to another friend's Weim). Anyway, if it were me, I'd be getting a golden retriever because of their laid back personality If you are really set on a GS or a GP, I would go with the GS. Good luck

| I am partial to Siberian Huskies!! but if not then a GS would be nice. They are great dogs and easy to train.

| I'm no help honey. I grew up with GS x 2 and love the breed, both were strays that adopted us. They were wonderful. I had a bf once that had a GP and he was wonderful also. I know I'm no help.

| I'm with the Golden Retrievers too. The owner of a local dog boutique has a Golden and fosters Goldens through a local Golden rescue. She brings them to work with her in addition to her chi, and chi mix. They all hang out in her store. There are always lots of little dogs running around and the Goldens are like these big gentle giants....wouldn't hurt a flea.

| If you are going with a big dog, I would go with a golden retriever. We had one growing up and my brother has 2. They are soooooooooooo sweet!!! I'm not a GS fan---got bit by one as a kid and now I'm scared to death of them!!!

| If you are looking for a large dog that will "play nice" with your small one(s), I recommend a black lab. My friend has one, and even though she has never had experience with small dogs before, she is wonderful with my yorkie. She plays with him ,but very gently. I'd be afraid the GS or GP would think he was a snack.

| I was thinking either a Golden Retriever or a Lab. They are mellow and committed family dogs. And they do well with the smaller guys too.. They are also great family and kid dogs. |

| I would go with a Labrador. They are a wonderful breed but you do have to do your homework on them as well. I would go with a well known show breeder and go with English lines(blocky heads, otter tail, etc). Check out the temperments of the dogs as temperment breeds through to the puppies as well as everything else. Get guarantees on hips, elbows, eyes too!! I would pick out a very laid back puppy and not a wiggly bounce off the walls puppy. I do not recommend: german shepards, great pyranese, siberian huskys, alaskan malamutes, most mastiff breeds, other larger terrier breeds, none of the site hound breeds(afgans, greyhounds, salukies)and absolutely no pitbulls! Good luck in your search!! I hope you dont get any of the breeds that I mentioned as I dont want you to have an unexpected heart ache. |
