I know to tell if something is cotton or synthetic you put a match to it. If it melts it is synthetic. If it slowly smolders it is cotton

Not useless - for me very important. And silk fibers shrivel up and turn black - smells like hair burning :).

Useless unless your interested in becoming a midwife:
I know that in childbirth (no drugs/no hospital/not being induced) the level of a woman's pain on a scale of 1-10 matches the level of dilation.

Ie on a scale of 1-10, her pain level is a 7, she's dilated to a 7.

So glad this is useless to me but I'll bet others on this site will hate to hear this!!! Wonder if it is the same for furbirth?

I was in a lot, I mean a lot of pain with my first child. Did most of my laboring at home, once we got to the hospital which is 3 mins away I was 8 centimeters. So, only mild meds, yay Me ! :eek:

I had 4 with no drugs. The only reason the last 2 were medicated is because they insisted that twins were high risk and needed a c-section. When the nurse came to check me, I told her I was a 5. She insisted there was no way I could know that. She checked and I was a 5. The next time she came to check, I told her I was a 7. She rolled her eyes and shook her head. But again, when she checked I was a 7. I told her I'm sorry I know my body better that a nurse whose barely known me 6 hours.....

Fun Fact...

Tongues are the strongest muscles in our bodies.

(I seem to have a lot of tongue fun facts swirling in my head since my tongue biopsy, but will leave it at that for now. ;))

That is awesome! I had five with no drugs, I can't imagine trying to do that without being able to feel everything going on, what a funny idea a nurse telling you no you don't know what your body is doing... :rolleyes:

We shop at Wal Mart, Meijer, Sears, Menards. We live really close to Wal mart about 2 mins away but I go wherever the Sales are !


The closest Target is in Findlay Oh about 35 miles away.

I had all three of my girls med free. DD1 was the easiest labor, totally managed by relaxation- after 8 hours I finally had one contraction that made me groan and with the next one I started pushing. 5 pushes later she was out.
DD2 was all back labor so the pain was totally different and easily relieved when DH applied the right pressure on the right spots. That labor was 7 hours and she was out with only 4 pushes.
DD3 was delivered at home, in the bathtub, with only my older two daughters in attendance (unplanned, unassisted, at home water birth.) That labor lasted 2 hours and the labor pain was intense and constant, probably because I couldn't relax properly. Though her actual delivery was the best, two little pushes and she was out.
Now all of this human experience I used to aid my Blazer's mama when I was her Midwoof. I got her in a calm, cool, quiet place to deliver and helped her relax. 6 pups in two hours- her shortest labor, biggest litter, and all pups were healthy and survived.
I'd love to be a Doula. :)

What is Meijer? Never heard of that. Seeing the name Menards is always funny to me bc I grew up in the Midwest w/ one of the Menard boys, so it's always odd to think of him as MENARDS the hardware store :p.

That's pretty cool . . Meijer is like an all in one type store. Food, hardware, lawn and garden, beauty, toys you name it they have it..
