Winning |
Should have bought some yesterday. Might would have won. |
Only if you bought the ticket in Indiana |
I should have stated "Texas Lottery". Sorry about that. |
How much was that worth? Can't imagine waking up this morning and being 403 million dollars richer |
Not nearly that. Peanuts in comparison. |
Sigh If I were to win it it would since I've retired not while I was working. Ever notice how often people are retired already that win?? I always like the ones that win a hundred million and say, I'm going to keep working at my job!! Right!!!! |
Yes, I've noticed. It usually is somebody elderly that wins. LOL At a previous residence in another state, our neighbor won a small one. I can't remember the amount, but it was less than 10 million. They have a modest home that one would assume they would have left or at least enlarged. The only purchases we saw for the two years afterwards that we could see was the husband bought a yellow mustang and they had new asphalt put on the drive and widened it a bit. I have friends still there that tell me they are still in that home. I would say they were already happy people and that win didn't do much to create more happiness for them. Just fattened their bank account. |
For the past few years, my 82 year old mother has been battling cancer. I went thru all the paper work for a FMLA. Turned the paper work in and would take off to take her for Her cancer treatment. HR came to me and said, they were going to have to take disciplinary action against me for taking her to treatment after turning in the paperwork stating how often she needed treatment. I mulled it around in my head for a week and came in the following Friday and said, I'm retiring. HA I didn't stay to train a replacement even. After 40 years in the same place, it was time to go! |
That's just awful that they treated you that way. Good for you for retiring! Prayers for your mother. My father died this time last year due to a botched brain surgery due to cancer. Horrible disease. My heart goes out to you. |
As often as I had to take her to the Dr. I've of gotten fired before it was all done. Just back from taking her to the Hospital For her eyes. Sorry for your loss :( |
I don\'t see how they could possibly fire someone after 40 years. You did the right thing. Thank you. |
They did me a favor. I was 60 and weighing on when to retire so, it worked out ok. There is one guy there that will have 50 years in this year. They become institualized . They don\'t know what else to do with their life or, the feeling I retire next thing is death! I had several people my age die off while they were working . That was a deciding factor for me too |
40 years is plenty. Left you time to enjoy life. Smart move imo. |
I\'m just taking money from my 401k for now four years I\'ll draw my pension and social security |
Will be nice for you when the time comes. |
I\'m enjoying it now. Do you and hubby enjoy working from home? |
We do indeed. Wish we had done it 20 years earlier than we did. |
Do you have the chance to take many vacations |
We do often. We stop all but the most important accounts during that time. Invariably, we will have at least one call to deal with, but it\'s a small price to pay to not have to get up and go into work every day and only get paid what some company wishes to pay us. |
Then you have a pretty good job |
Good enough. It gets tiresome at times as we don\'t get sick leave and such, but we don\'t have a boss breathing down our necks. When you work for yourself, there aren\'t any slackers letting you do all the work and them taking the credit. You either succeed or fail on your own merits. I like that much better. |
After 11 months of not working, I don\'t feel compelled to start another job any time soon |
I don\'t blame you. I wouldn\'t either if I had 40 years worth of a pension coming and a 401K with stock prices as they are now. My Dad retired early. Crazy early. Went to work at 17 and put in 30 years for the same company. Then they had him come back and work on call after hours for them to fill orders while he was drawing his retirement. He did this for another 10. He got paid whether they called him in or not and usually went down there twice a week for 30 to 60 minutes at a time depending upon the order. It added another 10 to his pension. I bought him his first computer and he learned to trade stocks on it which he loved doing. He was retired for almost half his life. From watching my Dad and how much he enjoyed his retirement, I am a firm believer in getting out of there when you can. His contemporaries that stayed for years almost all died young. |
Might make a big difference if you enjoyed your work |
I enjoyed mine. Still do. I can\'t imagine doing something for 30 or 40 years that I did not enjoy. |
More people do that then we probably know |
This is the definition of a paradox. I\'m winning but don\'t feel like a winner. Had oral surgery this morning to remove a cyst that was eating away at my jaw bone. Hurts to eat or talk and I love to do both. :( |
Ouch :( |
I\'m sorry, maxdog. I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon! |
