| ![]() One of the homier lodges in Yosemite. With beds so tall you have to climb up onto them and mattresses so deep you sink down into them.

| ![]() If I go out this summer, I'm going to go the northern route. Those Smokey Mt.'s take the fun out of my driving. It's flatter up north ![]()

| ![]() I love to look at them too, I just don't want to drive them again anymore then I have to. I'll decide after I drive 70 east and catch 95 south to Richmond if I want to make that drive each time. If I don't like the drive on 70, I'll take 64 back. What area are you heading to? If I go, I'm heading to Yorktown area.

| ![]() Me neither. We've been to Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Portland and Washington-state ski lodges but never any in Northern California or Yosemite! Love those with the huge common room with the monster fireplaces on at least two walls plus the giant round center fireplace, roaring fireplaces in each of the bedrooms, high 4-poster beds you have to climb up to get in, with layers of old-fashioned quilts, room views and service to die for and all the rustic-chic one can bear. And their bedtime hot cocoa puts you to sleep for at least 10+ hours. Ah, to be in any one of those wonderful lodges we've stayed in right now would meet such a need; but for some reason one of those older ski lodges in Yosemite would just fill the bill!(Obviously, I've had a little too much PBS.)

| ![]() Quote: Though can't really complain about our spring weather so far, it's starting to get hot and humid some days now in D/FW, requiring the A-C and am already longing for dry, cold nights like they're now having at any of the wonderful cozy ski lodges that dot the Northwest. Ah, I so love the mountains! What I wouldn't give for a nice long flight landing just about anywhere in NW with an elevation above 5k and big enough airport to land a commercial airliner - the only way I'll fly! Back in the day when we traveled so much, we used to fly to our NW/West destinations very early in the mornings so we'd start out our flights to the mountains with a piping-hot Cappuccino, usually laced with some type of liquor, very necessary for a white-knuckle flyer! We'd always board right by the first-class galley with that fresh coffee brewing away and our seats were usually close by so we'd smell coffee for the whole first hour on board and to this day, the smell of freshly-brewing coffee still reminds me of airplanes! Those were the days.
