OMG lol 4000 ft, I'm not at the top of this mountain, don't know what the elevation is at the top. A mere 1600 ft it's still warmer down below in town. That's a nice ride. I'm formally from NYC, The Bronx, Pennsylvania is a beautiful state, lots of farms, does Dexter do well with long car rides.

Awwww poor Dexter can't go on road trips. Cody is also not animal friendly and quit embarrassing to me when we go into Pet stores he turns into Cujo. All my passed girls were very well socialized by me, so I am not use to a Cujo dog.

I just had friends over visiting that haven't been here for a while. He was pit bull for a while then, he settled down and was well behaved.

I'm afraid he would go after the cat should I take him out there

Cody would surely go after a cat. My vet has cats roaming free in the waiting room. One time a cat was sitting on the receptionist desk, it's tail was hanging over and moving. Cody didn't know it was a cat, just saw something moving, he jumped at the moving tail, he just touched it, didn't nip or bite it, the cat whipped around, saw the dog, the receptionist took the cat and put it in the back. After we saw the vet and came out to the receptionist to pay the bill, we were walking towards the exit door and I hear this ruckus and feel Cody pulling the leash I turn around and there's the cat beating the hell out of Codys butt lol, I grabbed him up asked if the cat was declawed,
yes he was, so out I went. Since that incident Cody has a vendetta against ALL cats lol.

It's instinct isn't it? I've seen households where they were raised together and always wonder how they got so lucky?

Yes instinct but, it's how you socialize your dogs. My 4 girls were friendly with all animals, one even played with my niece's ferret, my last girl would kiss goats, sheep, cow, calf, and she LOVED horses. Where I buy my flowers they have a mini farm for the children, my girl LOVED the farm animals, Cody would go for their throat lol.
