| Dog dies getting nails trimmed.(cocker) BAKERSFIELD, Calif -- A Bakersfield woman is mourning the loss of her dog after it died while being groomed at a southwest Bakersfield Petsmart. Janie Phillips' 9 year old dog Tanya was having her nails clipped, when Phillips says the muzzle being used by workers at the store was put on too tightly. Philips believes the tight muzzle may have suffocated her dog. Petsmart says the muzzle was put on properly and the exact cause of death of the dog is not known. Petsmart has offered to pay for all costs incurred by the death of Phillips' dog.

| That's very sad but I don't see how a muzzle could be so tight that it would suffocate a dog. They don't snap around the neck, just the back of the head so no pressure on the trachea. And a muzzle that fits around the muzzle of a dog will allow for adequate breathing...it wouldn't be able to fit if it was so tight that the dog couldn't breath. I just don't see how it would be possible...I think there has to be something else going on. Some underlying health issue that caused the dog to die

| The lady refused an autopsy until it was too late to do one. That is what the news said anyway. She was prob. concerned about the cost at the time.

| If I was Petsmart I would have made sure a necropsy was done. I would think they'd want to clear their name... I just don't think a muzzle could have suffocated a dog. I think the dog had some kind of health problem and the stress of getting its nails trimmed caused it to die. I just hate to see petsmart being blamed when no one even knows the facts and there is no proof of how the dog died.

| That is awful, what petsmart was it? Southwest ,must be the one on ming. When I lost Shadow, they didn't charge me for his autopsy, unless you have bloodwork done. That was a the ER clinic on easton. I don't like petsmart for grooming. I think they for the most part are very untrained groomers. |
