you were feeding her because they didn't that is willful neglect.

To be honest, I never saw them physically mistreat Bear, I just never saw them feed her or give her water. I felt as long as they didn't physically mistreat her, it was no problem for me to feed and water her.

I know, I know..........but let me tell you - hindsight is definitely 20/20. I'm having a very hard time living with myself right now.

It is very hard to confront neighbors sometimes. After all, you have to live right next door to them. Dont beat yourself up. It was probably time for bear to be put down. It just should have been done with more compassion. You helped him in your own way that you were comfortable with. Even though you dont socialize with the neighbors, you dont want to start a war at your front door.

Ahhh Kim Don't beat yourself up about it. I really do understand. we all learn something everyday. The site I posted earlier has the law on it so now you've learned that.. I really hope that your son can get action for you.

I didn't take it that way

- I'm just heartsick about it and I would give anything if I had just loaded her up and called my vet.

I'm afraid in the country that's probably a norm. Growing up in a farm community I never even knew you could take a dog to a vet let alone have it "put to sleep" with a needle instead of a gun. It's harsh life when you're young and animals are destroyed that way. I have awful memories of a goat going that way. But for a lot of older farm folk, that's the way it's always been.

People like that consider it putting an animal out of it's misery. Plus, usually out in the country people have less money and the additonal $50-$100 doesn't seem reasonable for them. I know, I know, I would pay that in a heartbeat but it's not the same for all people. 14 years is a very long good life for a dog. She's in a better place now. You couldn't have done anything more and it sounds like you were very kind to the dog next door.

what a f...ing SOB he is the one who needs to die that way. Poor bear at least she is not suffering with that type of owners that she had. My heart is broken, you don't treat animals that way, there is not excuse for that.
