What kind of Digital Camera do you have? I'm looking into getting a new Digital Camera.. Although i'd personally like to get a Canon Digital Rebel  I can't afford it.. lol.. But I do want to get a new one.. Right now I have a Sony Cybershot 3.2 megapixel.. but my dad wants it, so i thought i'd give it to him and get a new one.. I didn't really like that camera as much.. and i love how some of the people who post pictures on here, i love the quality! so what kind of digital camera do you own, or do you recommend? :p |
Oh girl I'm a camera snob. You just asked a question in an area where I consider myself an expert (compared to most, of course) LOL. First, I need to know how much you're willing to spend, maximum value... |
I've seen a lot of deals lately on the digital rebel. I'm a Canon lover and suggest you to go with a Canon, of course. My sister just purchased one of the new Canon S2 IS cameras at Circuit City for under $500. It has a terrific zoom and uses SD cards for the media. I did a good bit of research before recommending that camera for her. She wanted something to take on vacation but also wanted to have zoom capabilities. The other camera that I liked was the Canon SD400 (which is 7.1 MP, I think) or the more expensive SD500. Onecall.com and bhphoto.com are both reputable online camera dealers. My sister purchased from CC because of the ability to bring it directly back to the store if there was a problem (which there hasn't been one). I'm seriously considering getting an S2 myself so that I can leave all my bulking pro camera equipment home while on vacation. My pro stuff takes up an entire backpack and is a pain when flying. |
Well i really wanted a camera that i could take pictures of you know the usual.. the furbabes.. the family.. but i like taking pictures of.. flowers, the sky.. i also like to take pictures of cars (im a car enthusiast).. :) my budget.. well... i don't really know how much to be expecting to pay.. i do know that if i want a good quality camera, i should be forking out a lot of $$ :D .. but i'm just like anyone wanting to save a buck or two :) Iforgot to add, that.. i wanted a camera that was fast enough to capture the moment lol.. it's hard taking pictures of my furbabes when my camera takes so long to load! :thumbdown :p |
If money were no option, I'd tell you to get the Canon 20D! It is an awesome camera and the highest level consumer/pro camera you can get. I know that isn't within your range though. ;) |
is that a big camera? if i could do payments on the camera, i'd so get it.. just like the rebel.. but i don't think i could lol.. :p but i guess i could start saving up now! :D |
Do you prefer a larger, more professional type camera or a small one you can fit in your purse? If you want a larger one, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Nikon Coolpix 8700 - That's the one I use for my photography business. Also, the Fuji Finepix S5100 or S7000 - they are great too. My uncle is also a photographer and he loves his S7000! (Click here) Ok, so if you're looking for a smaller camera - this one still does audio and video...and actually i'm looking to buy it also so I can tote a camera around wiht me everywhere (when I can afford it, that is).... ANYTHING Canon!!!! I recommend: (this one or any similar model. You can always trust Canon!) http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...&modelid=11158 And this one is made by Sony, and I'd never recommend any Sony but this one b/c it won a lot of awards last year: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/w1.html I bought my last digital camera for a killer deal of a price on www.buydig.com |
We've got several, but the one getting the most use now is the Canon SD300 (the older model, newer ones are the SD400 and the slightly bigger SD500) 4 megapixel camera. It's very small, lightweight, and can take pictures really fast from the time you turn it on. You can also take several pictures simultaneously at the highest resolution, which is great for Yorkie action shots. This is of course not a professional camera, but it'll do well for pictures as large as 8 by 10 from our personal experience. |
I bought a Nikon Coolpix 3.2mp about two years ago, and I love it! It takes great pictures and it's small. :) |
I couldnt be more happy with my olympus ultra zoom it has 10x optical zoom and 30x seamless zoom also will do video. |
I have a Canon SD100 my sis has the cuter smaller more updated version the SD200. my hubbie paid $300 a few years ago as a velentine's day present. My sis bought her's last summer for $280.00. I'm sure you can find them for less now.. my photo album is located on my signature so you can view the pic quality if you want. I love it, the only thing this camera does not do well is far zooming with the flash on, It becomes dark for some reason, and also , when turning the flash off you have to hold the camera wicked still or the pics looks distorted. Other than that no copmplaints, its compact, affordale, a CANON, and cute... happy shopping Deyna = ) -toni |
The awesomest camera in the world 2 Attachment(s) BTW here is the camera I am currently lusting over Kodak EasyShare ONE It is gorgeous!!! but a little hefty on the sticker price $600. It flips out to protect the lcd screen, Can email pics instanly so no need to upload, holds 1500 pics and best of all, its touch screen. OMFG I am drooling in love, in awe...It's not released until october, i should start saving. But here are some pics, check it out this camera is HOT happy shopping Deyna -Toni |
Gosh you guys are all so smart!! I'm wantin a camera for Christmas and I just printed out all 6 pages of this thread! Thanks! |
I use a Cannon Power Shot Pro 1 ..8 Mpix...... as far as Zoom ....let me just say I can spy as good as my girls if I wanted to |
A sony psc72 - DON'T buy that - it is sooooo slow in taking pictures and the quality is far from perfect :( |
I have a Canon Powershot A75...it works pretty well overall. |
okay, so i'm sorta iffy now with a lot of the feedback i've been getting.. but right now i'm lookin at the Canon SD400 http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...&modelid=11158 |
I use Sony Mavica CD-350 3.2 mega pixels. When I was shopping for a camera, I wanted one that used a disc instead of the stick. I love my camera and wouldn't trade it for the world!! You can even record a mini-movie on it. Discs aren't that expensive...around $10 for 25 discs which I get off of eBay. Got my camera off of there too brand new in box for under $300 shipping included. |

If you want to do some reading up on what people think about cameras, the best place to do so is at http://dpreview.com. For the Canon camera that you're considering, visit the "Canon Talk" forum --- Forums -> Canon Talk There is a comprehensive review of the SD500 http://dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd500/. There is a great feature there that will allow you to compare different cameras side-by-side. Its an awesome tool and pretty darned unique. Buying Guide -> Side-by-Side |
i'm thinking now.. since i saw the SD500... I need opinions.. Should I get the SD400 (5 megapixels) Now.. for you know.. regular taking pictures, i can bring the camera with me anywhere sorta type thing.. or should I get the SD500 (7.1 megapixels) for $100 more than the SD400.. Or.. should i get the SD400 now... and then wait till later to get the canon digital rebel (8 megapixels)? i'm going crazy! |
Canon Digital Elph. |
I just replaced my old digital camera( Sony Mavica) with a Kodak Dx7630. Love all the options and ease of use. At my age, teaching old dogs new tricks is not as easy as it use to be. |
StewiesMom, Is that the Canon Powershot SD 400 digital Elph Camera that you referred to? Please let me know. Thanks YT friends. I also will be looking for a small digital camera that I can take anywhere. I am not familiar with cameras, let alone computer stuff, so this thread has been helpful to me. Someone suggested buydig.com and if I looked it up correctly, this Canon Powershot SD 400 Elph is $344.00. I'll have to look at other websites and then try some Circuit City, Walmart, etc. Thanks again. ~Bella, General Patton, & Maria~ |
I don't see a point in getting an 8mp camera unless you want to blow your photos up to the size of a wall. I mean, 4mp and even 3.2 is fine for printing photos up to 11x14 (and sometimes larger). My camera is a year old. Its the Canon Elph SD200. I got it as a gift when it first came out and it was around 350 I believe. Its 3.4mp with a crappy zoom. That's the only thing I would change about it. Its very durable and has been dropped dozens of times. I don't trust those cheap plastic ones. My mom has an Olympus and I think its crap. The controls and options are not very user friendly. My Elph has minimal buttons and is simplified compared to other cameras in its class for ease of use. I'd recommend it to anyone. |
YorkieGirl, Sorry if I am cutting in here, but you've posted a thread that interests me too. Thanks. Was wondering since we have so many qualified members what their thoughts might be a better digital camera that is lightweight(to take everywhere), takes good quality pics(no reds in yorkie eyes, etc.), has good stability when you move your hands slightly the pic comes out good, and that the features are user friendly for some of us who wear glasses(I am near sighted, can't see close up). Oh, one other thing. That is easy to use for someone like me who is not all that computer literate(or camera knowledgeable for that matter). I know this is too much to ask. Money is not a factor. Many of you have been suggesting the Canon Powershot SD 400 Elph Camera. Would you suggest this one for someone like myself? So.......please tell me what you think would suit me? Thanks! ~Bella, General Patton, & Maria~ |
i got the cannon rebel and i love it. |
Was this response directed at me or YorkieGirl? Is there a model for this Rebel? Thanks, ~Bella, General Patton, & Maria~ |
sorry Bella0722, I tried to just make a quick response to the thread and didn't specify the kind and why i love it. it is the cannon EOS 300D Rebel that I have. 6.3 megapixels ,auto and manual focus, program and manual exposure, JPEG and RAW file format, ISO range 100 - 1600, proprietary Lithium-Ion battery. Accepts interchangeable Canon EF lenses. I also have used a zoom len from one of my 35MM cameras and it works great. It is easy to use and the price has come down extremely since I bought mine. I'm no expert by any means but I do take a lot of pics of my yorkies and my grandson (when i travel to see him). I use a 512MB card so it hold gobs of pics. |
The reason why i want to get a canon rebel in the future is because I like very high resolution camera's for the things i will be taking pictures of. that a 3.2 megapixel camera will not work.. I don't know if you are familiar with Cars or anything, But i'm a car enthusiast and I love detailing me and my boyfriends cars.. and of course I LOVE taking pictures.. with high res.. and i cannot get the same quality with a 3.2 megapixel camera... i think a 5.0 would be fine.. but i think a 7 or 8 megapixel would be just right for the kind of quality i want. So sorry if i wanted to get a high resolution camera.. ;) |
