| YT 2000 Club Member | These cases drive me crazy, how can a person forget that a baby is in the car, even if it was out of routine that you have the baby? I feel sad for all involved! I couldn't imagine what the baby's parents are going through, the father, knowing that his stupidity killed his child, and the mother having to deal with the loss of her baby and what she must be feeling towards her husband. Very sad It was in the local newspaper that a mother was charged for leaving her 4 month old baby in a car while she went shopping, luckily, 2 other shoppers spotted the baby and called police and they got the baby out of the car by an unlocked car door. The Mother claimed she was only in the store for a few minutes while she bought baby formula! She also claimed that she "forgot" that the baby was with her!! She was charged with child endangering and the baby was released to her. The newspaper has a web sight, Sanduskyregister.com |

WOW that is crazy. Here if you leave a kid in the car.. for one second..unattended.. you can get cited. Which is good. I worry about Bailey in the car running with the air ON.. while I'm in it too.. I'm always aimming the vents towards him.. while I sweat. Some people should NEVER have children.. or any living things for that matter.

| i don't understand it, you can't smack/hit your kids in public,(or you will go to jail) but you just get a slap on the wrist for leaving them in the car / killing them !!!!!!

| It just makes me sick to think of the poor babies who have died horrible deaths such as this. This same thing happened here in ND last year. A mother forgot her baby in the car and after work, went to day care to pick up the baby. When they told her she hadn't dropped the baby off that day, they ran out to her van to find the baby dead. Me, I just can't imagine how anyone could forget their baby in a car. How they could even live with themselves after something like that is beyond me!

| It must be an epidemic.. Here in Pittsburgh, a woman left her toddler in her car outside her house because she was so tired from working 2 jobs??? I understand being tired but leaving your child in the car because of it?? They found the child covered in leaves and branches because it had stormed and the sun roof was open!! Poor thing must have been scared to death outside by herself all night in the rain...

| I will never understand this! How can you forget your child??? Honestly, they should make people pass a psychology test and take parenting classes before becoming a parent. You have to have a license to fish, you have to have a license to own a dog.......but any idiot can become a parent.

| I think of my children, one here and one married 24/7, from the moment I wake up, they are a part of me, they are in me. These people have to be soooo self centered that they can forget their child ALL day! I agree, I hope these people are prosecuted, this is murder, intent or not, it is murder, a death of a child - murder. If this is not part of the laws, tell me how to go about making it a law, so that these people can't and won't get out of being prosecuted with their flimsy excuses.

| I cannot bash these people, I dont know the whole story. If the dad isnt used to taking the baby to daycare, it could be it just slipped his mind. I don't usually tell anyone about this, but I feel I must. First off, I have to say that I am a great mom I homeschooled my children for years, they just recently started going to a good charter school, I am a youth leader, a teacher of young women at church, and my kids are my LIFE. I have been married for over 11 years now, and we have 6 kids 9 and under. That being said, shortly after my husband and I had our 5th, I brought her and my oldest son to the grocery store while dh watched the other kids at home. My son and I were chit chatting and the baby fell asleep. A lot of times I just go to the store and take him alone because he is a big helper to me. Well we got there, hopped out, and ran into the store. We grabbed a cart, started walking, and I felt like I had to look in my purse for something. So I opened my purse and the baby's binky was on top. I grabbed it and looked at my oldest and almost threw up. I left the baby in the car. Now, it was 65 degrees outside, and it had only been MAYBE 3 minutes. We darted to the car as fast as we could. I was sick to my stomach all day and cried and shook. I just kept thinking oh my gosh, WHAT IF??!! The baby was fine, but what if she hadnt been? What if I would have not realized I left her till a half hour later and someone spotted it and called the police? I was SO thankful that I remembered her only a couple minutes later. But what if. I had never done such a stupid thing my whole life. It is completely out of character for me. I only once ever hired a babysitter for my kids. My kids dont leave my sight hardly ever. I had terrible PPD at the time, which I never had before, and actually thought was made up before I had her. It was a hard lesson for me. I have no sympathy for the parents that deliberately leave their kids in the car, but I have have DEEP sympathy for the true mistakes. Yes, it is a horrible horrible mistake, but it is a mistake none the less. There was a lady a couple years back that left her toddlers in the car in 90 degree weather to get her hair done. Kids died. She went to jail, and its good she did. She didnt forget them, she just left them like they were nothing to her. The true accidents though, man, those people have to live with that sick sick feeling in the pit of their stomachs like I had the second I realized I left my baby, for the REST of their lives. I think thats more than enough, IMO.
