Ok, so I've been trying to get online all night and have not been able to. Thought it was my satellite

But un-hooked my router, that I just hooked up yesterday and now my internet works.

AND I can't get my laptop to sign on either! (wireless)

And here I was so proud that I hooked it all up by myself. Thats why it seemed so easy!!! I did it wrong!

First thing, check to make sure your firewall is not blocking the router. You need to go into the firewall program and tell it to allow the router.

It will be hard to diagnose without seeing it, but...

Do you have the little icon down in the lower right corner of your screen that shows the network? (looks like two teeny computer screens)?

If so, right click on it, and you should get a choice, one of which says diagnose and repair. Click that. Let me know what happens.

Yup! i know where your talking about. But I only see repair and that went through ok. I don't have the router hooked up right now cuz then I can't be online.

I just found Windows Firewall. It advises not to disable

OK..you'll have to be online with the router for it to work. Here are some things to try when you go back and hook it up. Do that same right click, and there is another option for connect to network. There should be a choice pop up with that. You should see at least your own network (and maybe some of your neighbors' too). If you can't connect to it, it may be that you haven't yet entered in a security key. The firewall is another thing, too. You can find that in your virus program, and I think also in your user account set up. Are you using XP or Vista?

I found Windows Firewall, when I right clecked on the two little computer icons in the lower right hand corner. I have XP on this (desktop) which is going to be directly connected with the router and Vista on my laptop which will be wireless.

I'll turn off the firewall right now and try it and hook the router back up and see what happens...

I know Linksys has a site you can go to and they walk you through the steps, but Belkin I don't know if they have that or not.. You might have to call them and have them set it up on their end.. Because if your IP address is not the same as the computers, it will never go online, its a pain...

Yeah, thats what I figured. I called them today for something and of course could barely understand a word they were saying

Plus, my computer is downstairs and my cell phone drops calls down here sooooooooooooooooooooooo this is going to be real fun. ARGH!

I know what your talking about with barley understanding what they are talking about, it makes the situation more stressful, lol...
