| Doctor warns consumers of popcorn fumes Consumers, not just factory workers, may be in danger from fumes from buttery flavoring in microwave popcorn, according to a warning letter to federal regulators from a doctor at a leading lung research hospital. A pulmonary specialist at Denver's National Jewish Medical and Research Center has written to federal agencies to say doctors there believe they have the first case of a consumer who developed lung disease from the fumes of microwaving popcorn several times a day for years. http://health.yahoo.com/news/179052 |

| That's a frightening story. I'm glad we're not big popcorn eaters.

| I saw this a while back that the Teflon they use to coat the bags is highly carcinogenic...I stopped eating popcorn from those bags, I heard that Paul Newman's brand does not use this... This is a serious concern for pregnant women..... It's also in those sleeves that those pocket sandwiches use like HotPockets & also microwave pizza that sits on those shiny cardboards.. You can make your own microwave popcorn by using a microwave safe bowl, add 1/4 -1/3 c. popcorn, cover with microwave safe plastic wrap, poke several holes in the top, our microwave pops it in about 3 minutes and 20 seconds, and it's fat free this way. ( but I add 1 tbsp. of melted butter, sometimes I drizzle it with honey).

| You can also put the popcorn in a brown paper bag and fold over the top of the bag. When I found this out I was like, well duh. Microwave popcorn is expensive. I knew about the teflon but also most brands have trans fat.
