Michael Vick Defended By Woopi Goldburg Anyone that watches the View should write Barbara Walters and let her know what you thought of Woopi Goldburg defending Michael Vick. Woopi Defended Michael Vick's Dog Fighting by saying (As printed in today's NY POST) "That all the nasty business really wasn't Vick's fault because after all, in the culture he comes from this kind of thing is normal." Linda Stasi the TV critic for the NY Post states "What culture is that? The man comes from Virginia, not Nazi Germany." So just where is this culture where torturing animals is part of the grand tradition? The deep south Woopi, as though pit bull fights there is as common as Diary Queens and Beauty Queens "Is like cock fighting in Puerto Rico" "There are certain things that are indicitive to certain parts of the country." Said Woopi. Linda Stasi has called for EVERY viewer of the View to email Barabara Walters and tell her just what they think of Woopi Goldburg! Please, email the View (Barbara Walters) and let her know how sickened you are by these comments. I'm sure people in Virginia are more then upset about being lumped in as dog fighters. Elaine |
My e-mail is on it's way. Excuses, excuses is all some use to make a wrong a right! Not this time I am sure. I hope they get thousands of 3-mails. |
Agreed. Just because it is socially acceptable doesn't mean it is right. Let's see, for instance: Women's liberation Civil rights movement Concentration camps Asian child mutilation African diamond trade American liberation from England the Civil War Communism :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown |
Haha, poor Whoopi. After watching a video clip of the incident, I wouldn't go as far as say she was "defending" dog fighting/Vick. The media (as always) tends to take things out of context and spin them how they want. I'd be curious to know how many people who are writing letters actually saw the clip (and not just read bits and pieces about it). |

I saw it and they talked about it again today. What was printed in the papers is out of context. What she said was she can understand how if he was raised in this environment, how he could continue and think nothing was wrong. She said both before and after the comment that she did not now nor never would condone dog fighting. She is also very active in PETA. |
Actually what you're reading today in the papers, etc....... is taken out of context. She wasn't defending him---------what she said in total--in addition to what was printed ----- she was suggesting that in order to effectively fight things like dog-fighting, we must know the culture it is born out of. When we know the source, we can more effectively erradicate with education. |
The point I'm trying to make is that going with the flow doesn't mean you are doing what is right. But I do think that animal cruelty is worse than human cruelty, just because they are completely defenseless and without a voice. |

fighting I watched the show and was really surprised it did not start a big fight..if Rosie was there it would certainly been a free for all. I do not believe any one has to be told it is wrong to strangle, electrocute or torture an animal to death...not in the year 2007. I hate the fact they race dogs here in Florida...the actual racing is not the point, but how the dogs are treated by the breeders and handlers. I would love to see it outlawed! |
Personally, I don't buy into the excuse of its his culture and he didn't know any better. I grew up in the south where there was dog fighting and cock fighting going on but I still know that it is wrong and morally reprehensible. It was a personal decision he made to engage in this type of behavior. He knew it was wrong or he wouldn't have tried to hide it or lie about it. In the whole nature vs nurture debate, I believe that its a combination of the two that makes a person who they are. But there comes a time when you have to stop blaming your environment and take some responsibility for your own actions. |

fighting You are so right..I grew up in the south also..we raised dogs and chickens and I do not recall anyone having to tell me it was wrong to fight them..it was just plain common sense not to abuse animals. |
