Awww Man, Dry Socket????? So I think I have dry socket in my two lower sockets, from having my wisdom teeth out on Friday. I have all the symtoms. Increased pain, huge holes, hubby says he can see white in the holes (bone?) this is gross but, foul taste from the sockets, and they ache! I can contain the pain with Ibruprophin, and I've been googling all night and found that the treatment for it just eases the pain, but doesn't increase the speed of healing. I just don't have time to go to my dentist every 24 hours for a packing. Has anyone had this and just suffered thru it? |
Yikes  !!! I am sorry. I was fortunate enough not to have that problem when I had my wisdom teeth out but know that it happens more often than not. I will ask one of the ladies @ work tomorrow if they of something that might could help besides going to the DDS. I hope it gets better soon! |
Oh my...That sounds super painful!! When I had my wisdom teeth removed, they hadn't even started to come out yet, so they had to go in and get them...I was in soooo much pain, but I didn't have a dry socket...I can't imagine the kind of pain I would have been in if that would have happened to me. I wish I had some advice for you!!! Feel better soon! |
Thank you!!!! |
Ouch, that's very painful. Here's a link that might help you. I hope you feel better soon! http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dry-socket/DS00778 |
OMGosh! You poor girl! I have never had a dry socket, but I've heard how horribly painful they are! Did they give you info on how to prevent dry sockets, like not gargling or suckng with a straw? I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery. Best wishes and lots of hugs! |
I had dry socket in all of my holes.....packing is the only way...if the infection goes to your heart it can be fatal. Not to scare you but you have to make time, thats why they give antibiotic to people with heart issues before teeth cleaning. I was given a lot of Vicodin and was VERY sick. The pain inceases if you dont get it taken care of...you have exposed nerves if it is dry socket. Have you drank pop? Thats what caused mine. I dint know u were not supposed to and drank pepsi like crazy....had dry socket within 3 days. I hoe you feel beter and please go to the dr......I dont want you to be in pain. Packing is almost instant relief!! |
I've been drinking diet pepsi like crazy, no straws and I don't smoke. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say.... you just scared me! |
I had dry sockets in all of mine as well. I didn't drink threw a straw or do anything that would cause it either. The dentist told me that it can just happen sometimes. I was in a lot of pain and the pain meds made me sick, but I still took them because I would feel somewhat better when I did. Go and see your dentist and have him make sure that it is in fact dry sockets. It will be painful for the next couple of days. I hope you feel better!!! |
It could be dry socket, but maybe not. I had the white in the holes. I called my oral surgeon's office and was told they are blood scabs. You should probably get checked just to be safe though. Sorry you are having such a bad time of it. |

well the pepsi probably did it....I dont wanna scare you, I am just being honest....I just hate to see you go thru the pain, or leave untreated. Infection takes awhile so i doubt u have that but seriously the packing helps immediately!!! Its a great relief. Sorry for scaring you, I promise i didnt mean too When I said fatal that means leaving untreated and getting infection....any infection can be fatal but ones of the mouth are serious stuff you just take care of yourself and go to the DR!! We do not want you in pain!!! |
Make sure you pack them good. And I changed my packing like every 3-4 hours. I took the pain meds when needed. I drank water only and ate like a piece of toast so that I wouldn't get too sick when I took the pain medication and within 3 days I was feeling much better. I would still check with your dentist though. |

(I also had an apiectomy, so I was hurting from 2 places) ... I hope you get well soon ... I have very little to say that is encouraging .... get pain pills ... do not take "no" for an answer .... |
It sounds like dry sockets to me.. I had it on both bottom. They (the dentist) packed my EVERYDAY with gauze that was dipped in "Oil of clove"! It promotes healing and keeps infection away! I had to go everyday for 5 days.:( You really need to go to the dentist. :animal-pa |
I think that you need to get into the dentist so that they can check and make sure that if it is DRY SOCKET then they can pack it and get you on meds for infection. I had my wisdom teeth done this June 21 and by the 25 I was miserable and called to get it checked out. They had to numb my mouth, clean out the hole and put gauze socked in a medication in it. I had to go back every three day's for repacking but by then I was wanting it to be changed because I have a germ phobia. After a month and a half I had a gel put in the hole and they did that 4 times till the hole finally started to heal close. It still is not fully closed yet but the bone is not exposed. I do not heal fast so it did take longer then most to get the hole to start closing. I hope that you have that looked at, and that you have a speedy recovery! |
I went to the doctor You guys scared me into it !!!! I called first thing this morning and they got me right in. The oral surgen doesn't think its dry socket because the motrin 800's are taking the pain away and I'm sleeping thru the night. They also flushed out both hole and suctioned them out (but they didn't freeze them!!!) He said I had lots of food in the holes (((GROSS))) He also said part of the test for dry socket is seeing if I jump out of my seat when he starts to clean the holes. If the bone was exposed I would have felt immediate pain. But I was ok. Until AFTER! Holly Heck!!! It HURT!!!! Soooooooo, he doesn't think its dry socket, he said it just takes time. But wow. are those some huge holes! I'm terrified to eat anything now. How gross is it having food get in there!!! he gave me a syringe to use to clean them out but still. So I guess, I'm just going to be in pain for awhile :( AND STARVING :( Thanks so much for all your warm wishes!!!!!!!!!!! |

I got that too, from smoking:o The doc told me to gently rinse with warm salt water. |
Ahhh you poor thing, having those teeth out is painful enough with out getting dry sockettes, I was hospitilaized for mine, Iam alergic to everything under the sun, But i did have 1 dry socket on the bottom:( it hurt like hell) they had to pack it with med every couple days, witch felt so much better,I hope you feel better soon, Oh and I to didnt eat for 2 weeks:eek: Just soup so stock up;) hey i lost 5 pds thats the good news;) |
Oh, my dear, I'm so glad that you went. I had to work today and cannot access YT for some dumb reason. This is the first thing I wanted to check. I hope you're feeling better. I wish I was there to cook for you. When my daughter had jaw surgery and was wired shut I was a whiz with the blender. Didn't know you could make a shake out of birthday cake!!!. |

I am so glad that they weren't dry sockets!! Phew... |
Dang I just can't win. Whatever he did today by cleaning them out has made the left lower feel like I have dry socket!!! Holy $hit does it hurt like HE - double toothpicks! Worse pain than before, horrible pain! ARGH!!!! The right one feels fine now - no pain at all. |
I did mine a couple years ago and I got dry sockets on the bottom. From eating a frosty with a spoon. Ugh!! The packing was WORSE than the pain. It was HORRIBLE. I tasted it for weeks. I don't do well with flavors and whatever the clove stuff was it was the most horrible thing I have ever tasted or smelled. The doctor and nurses acted like I was a lunatic because it was making me so sick. I guess not everyone has the same reaction to it, but wow was it horrible. I think I ended up taking them out just so I could sleep... |
This really sux. I was there today and he didn't think I needed it packed....sooooooooooooooo I just think I'll never eat again! AND I just lost 13 pounds, so I guess a couple more wont hurt!!!! I NEVER thought it was going to be like this...wow! I guess they say, the older you are when you get them out, the deeper the root and the worse it is. I should have done this 20 years ago. You should SEE the holes in my mouth! |
