Does anyone own a Sony Vaio Laptop? We have two computers in the house (one belongs to hubby and the other is in my daughters bedroom) but I wanted my own so I don't have to wait in line ...that slows up my YT time :D . So I was shopping around and fell in love with their new colored ones (Gonna get me a pink one). I originally was going to ask hubby to buy it for me but I figured I treat myself and not bother even though I know he will get it for me if I want it.... Anyhow (sorry I am stoked) I was wondering if anyone has one and what they think of it. I had a Dell and it was ok. SO I was wondering if anyone has any yeahs or nays about the Sony Laptop. Thanks. |
I have a Vaio - not a laptop though - a pc - I'll say this about Sony - they have a good name but I'm not to sure about their staying power - we HAD a beautiful 56" Vaio TV - it only lasted 6 years before the Picture tube went out and they wanted 2 GRAND to fix it - I bought a little 50 $ Tv from the Repair man that same night - my husband hates it but we don't have the $$ for a new tv these days - The same happened to a friend - her Sony TV died after only 5 years too I remember having a Panasonic TV and that sucker lasted me 20 years before finally dying |

I have one that I got around Christmas time. I wouldn't say don't get one because it's been good for me, so far, but I would encourage you to get a Dell before a Sony. I've always had Dell desktops (well, we had one IBM...but about 4-5 Dells) and I love them so much. By far, the best. I've heard great things about their laptops, too. Like I said, my laptop is fine, but it's not great by any means. |
I ordered the Vaio and it's on back order. It's one of the new ones that is colored. I had my bil look at the specs of the computer and he said it's good especially for what they are asking. I have until the end of the month before it's shipped since it's on back order. I had a dell..not all that happy with Dell machines either their desktop or laptop because of the way that they set up the innards so that you can't do any upgrades yourself unless you spend a ton to do an internal overhaul or if you only go to them to do the upgrades wtih their parts. There are tons of other companies that make a better graphics card, etc at much cheaper parts if you want to upgrade. But dell is notorious for situating the internal and making their parts so that you have to buy other parts from them for it to fit right in there. I wanted to take advantage of the buy it now and no payment until '09. The computer will primarily be for my emailing and maybe keeping track of household financial stuff. Dunno I am confused as to what to do. I specifically got it unengraved so I could return it in the 30 days if I didn't like it. |

The best way to get the tv fixed is by a local repairman. If you use their authorized repair shops them bastards ring your neck and rip you off so bad. The old tvs are the best...tube is the only tv that lasts forever and forever. |

It's a Sony Vaio & it's one of the "N-Series." I tried to find it on their website, but couldn't. They had some of the N series ones, but none of their model numbers matched. Mine is white on top & silver on bottom where the keypad is. |
I was looking at the n-series as well. It was $300 cheaper. I was contemplating that one as well but I got suckered by the PINK...lol. I am checking out reviews online which I should have done before ordering. I found that zdnet rated it as: The Sony VAIO CR series wraps an otherwise average thin-and-light-laptop in a colorful, personalized case. I am just confused as hell. Maybe I will just cancel the order and then go see it in the store and behave myself. It's a fairly new model and there are not that many reviews out there. One negative I have seen is a complaint about the battery lock. Doubt that should be enough of a deterrent though. |
I have an acer (dell) TravelMate 4500 (laptop). My mom and dad bought it for me when I transferred to another college. I have used mac's my whole life, but the pc is what the college uses, and it has everything I'll need. But I honestly miss my mac, so much easier than pc, and we've never had any trouble with ours. I used pc's in elem school, but once I got in ms they bought all macs. It does help that dad is the principal and I can use all of the software. But I just like that I could do it myself. But anyways, I do like my acer. So far it's been great. |
I have a sony vaio pcg-fr35 it is a few years old. It has been good to use as a laptop but the battery power is horrible. It only stays charged for about 15min then needs to be plugged in again and is awful warm on your lap. So portablility is not great. Did you look and see if consumers reports has any info? |

If your battery life is that bad then you need a new one. When your home I would suggest a direct plug and not the battery. I think the standard battery that comes with most Laptops are ok. Plus a lot of the older batteries have the memory thing in them that makes it so that it will take only so many charges. My mom got a new dell laptop last year and I kept on telling her to unplug it and not use it plugged in and with the battery a the same time becuase it defeats the purpose. She didn't listen and now needs a new battery. I don't have a subscription to consumers digest. I have to see how much it runs to sign up for it. I would like to find out more information about this laptop. Thanks so much for your input. Any information will be a great help. |
