You just never know with all these subsidiary companies. I am going to talk to my techie friend at work tomorrow. Acer definitely puts out a lot of low priced laptops. Honestly pc is much easier than mac. It's hard when you make the switch either way I guess since your accustomed to it. |
I just ordered a Dell Laptop and its PINK :) I have a thread started somewhere here in off topic. I don't have it yet, but I'm excited to get it !!!!! |

I don't understand this; I have a Dell laptop that I've had for probably 6 years and have always used it plugged in (the battery life is not very long), other than if I was flying (rare) or somewhere that the cord wouldn't reach. Is this a bad thing to do? Aside from it being big and heavy (it's a model 8500) and slow now (I think I have too much stuff on it), I haven't really had too many problems with it. Other than probably user error problems...somehow I've lost drivers at one time or another so now I can't use the cd portion of it ....I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to re-install that driver or update it, since it looks like you have to do it manually. But I've used the heck out of it and that just happened within the last 6 months or so. I particularly liked the snap on covers for it; they offered several different colors but I got the tortoiseshell cover; whenever I take it with me on the plane, everyone always says "what a pretty computer", LOL. My dh has a Sony Vaio laptop...he likes it, and it's cute b/c it's so small and light, but he also just knocked it off a desk and it's broken now:rolleyes: . Anyway, he doesn't really do all that much with it so I'm not sure how versatile it really is. |
I don't have one of these but I have terrible luck with Sony products. Anything Sony that I have purchased has been a piece of junk. I just told myself no more Sony. |

I was just looking at the Dell's too. I did a side by side comp and I get more for the money from the Sony model. Not sure yet what I am going to do. I will have my BIL and Hubby look at the specs again. Thanks. Have fun when you get yours. |

My mom got a Dell laptop for Christmas last year and she loves it. The only problem she had with it was Windows Vista stunk. That wasn't Dells fault though, I think everyone had problems with Vista when it first came out. I agree with the 5 yr thing. Nothing seems to last very long anymore. I remember the TV we had when I was a kid and that thing lasted forever. |

From what I was told by the techno geeks in my firms IT dept. it's best to not use the battery and pc plugged in at the same time. If you are somewhere you can use the battery then use that only. If your somewhere you can use it plugged then use it plugged only and remove the battery. Most of these batteries have a max number of charges that they can take and by using the pc while plugged in and having the battery in it also takes away from the max amount of charges the battery can have over the course of it's lifetime. I also dislike the fact that sixty days after getting my old dell laptop when I called for help they told me I had to pay for customer support...come now that is a bit rediculous. I had a fit. It also sucks that they want you to pay for a reboot disc. Like hello I am paying x amount of dollars for a pc from you and I have to pay for that too. It should be given like with other pc companies for free with your pc in case it crashes. |

Those old tv's are super and last as long as you want to keep them. Tube tvs are the best. They are heavy as hell and big but they do last. |
i've had a sony for 8yrs! No problems except the input plugs broke. My next will probaly be a dell. |
DH just bought me a Gateway Laptop 1.5 months ago and I love it! It's got Vista and is super easy to navigate :) I wish mine was pink though! :) |
I have a Sony Vaio desktop. I've had it for 4 years and so far the only problem I've had with it is the CD Drive. I don't know how it happened but it pulverized one of my CDs in there into pieces. I got it fixed through Best Buy with their warranty program. I also had a Sony Vaio laptop which was my first laptop. I liked it but it was heavy and I'm sure the newer ones are more sleek and thin. |
Posted this but page didn't load(hope this doesn't post twice). I had two Sony Vaio's and now own a Mac 13". I love my Mac sooo much more. Vaio's are preloaded with a ton of software that makes it run slow. Plus IE keeps crashing. Dell just came out with a pink one also, but a lot of companies have pink laptops if you do a search. I personally think in a year the colored ones will look dated whereas the white and black will always be classic. But if you have your heart set on a pink one, upgrade as much as possible so it will run faster. Actually, when I was looking at pink ones my husband said one of these would be a good choice: http://www.xtremenotebooks.com/index...e_type=15_inch I like at least 2.16 and 2GB in a laptop. |
I Own a Sony VAIO laptop... i would not recommend it!!! First the battery started to fail, so I had to use it always plugged. Then te DVD Drive began to fail... and THEN it just stopped working at all  |
