My battery lock is fine. It will wiggle a bit, but it's in there pretty good. I do have to give the laptop a  for being really, really light. It weighs next to nothing and it is very thin. But honestly, that's the only thing I would give it a  for. Mine wasn't cheaper, though. My Dad bought it for me for university & he paid just under $2,000 with extended warranty. He said that actual laptop was over $1,600...maybe the N-series in Canada is different than in the US? |
I used to have a Sony Vaio desktop and it was horrible. It crashed all the time and ran very slow even though it had enough memory where it shouldn't have been doing it. By far the worst computer I've ever owned. I own a 15 inch Mac Book Pro now and will never buy another PC. The Mac is awesome I've had no problems with it at all and I've had it for almost a year! |

Wow, thanks for the information! All this time, I've been using it plugged in and have never removed the battery! Maybe that's why some things stopped working on mine? I don't know how I missed that...or how my dh did (he just makes sure I turn it off:rolleyes: ). I agree with you about the customer support thing and the reboot disc; that's probably why I don't bother to call about the cd/dvd driver issue....the bad thing also, is that you usually pay more for a Dell than a lot of other ones and then they pull that on you. Very annoying! I do still like mine, but I suppose it's sort of what you're familiar with. Someday I'll get a laptop that doesn't weigh10 lbs :p . |
I just put a call into the IT dept at work to ask the computer guru's here and see what they have to say. |
My daughter has had a Sony Vaio (sp) laptop for several years now and no problems what-so-ever! She keeps it plugged in while we are home...unless she wants to do work outside. We have never had a problem with anything. We love the big screen and she does a lot of school work, music and games on it. Oh and pictures! My mother and MIL both have Dell desktops, but they have had lots of problems with them (one has had theirs for two years, the other only a few months)...I don't know why??!! I think it is just personal preference.....We got the Sony because two computer friends of mine and my attorny friend did a lot of research for me (I was working at the school at the time and coaching cheerleading, etc, so I didn't have a lot of time to spend on research)...and the Sony was what they recommended. Good luck with whatever you decide on. |
My big techie geek just came back and gave me a thumbs up on the Sony. We also built the same computer from Dell with the exact components and the price was maybe $50 cheaper if I went with the dell. I have had dell in the past and didn't care for the customer service. I think it sucks worse that they have subcontracted out and the folks don't know and read from a booklet. I asked him why our firm uses Dells vs any other computer. He told me honestly it's because we get such a huge discount with them since we lease so many computers. Well I should get my Sony about the same time Breny gets her Dell...we can see what is what and how we each like them. We both got systems with Vista on it. So we can compare notes after and post it for you guys. I can't wait to get it. I had hoped I could get it before I left to Fl for vacation. I am keeping my fingers crossed. |
