You can put your mouse arrow over the paperclip (without actually having to open a thread) and you can see how many attachments are in that thread. If you click on the paperclip, you can view the attachment files and can open them up that way.

Also, it's a good way to see if more attachements have been added (if you remember what the previous number is).

i am so glad you posted this. i go crazy sometimes when people post their pictures as attachments. i can't ever see the pictures but know everyone else can because they are oooooohing and etc. This way i get to see them too.
