I have Poison Ivy- anyone have a good remedy I have Poison Ivy for the first time in my 36 yrs. I was a big tom boy as a child and spent most of my time in the woods. I thought I was immune to it because of never having got it back then. WRONG! I clean out my back fence line and 2 days later! BAM! It's on the inside of both forearms. I found out I can't give it to my babies, that made me feel better. It's driving me CRAZY!! I'm getting a new blister about every 8 hours. Trying not to pop the blisters, constantly putting on the no-itch stuff. I feel so sorry for people who get this very easily and get it bad. I only have about 10 blisters total but it's so itchy. I'm looking for some good home remedies to help dry it up! |
Calamine lotion or Caladryl helps. Have you taken any Benadryl? It might help with the itching. You might also call your doctor and see if he can phone in a prescription or something. Have you taken an oatmeal bath? |
My daughter gets poison ivy if she so much as THINKS about it. Does your local pharmacy carry Ivy-Dry? You can find it at wal-mart as well. Wonderful stuff! Other than that I'd suggest a dr visit. |
I was going to suggest what the above posters suggested...Also. Benadryl works pretty good...The oral med will work from the inside to help stop the itching...only thing is it's going to make you sleepy. If it gets really bad, I would see your doctor. He can give you a shot that will help. |
I've got some generic calamine (although it's clear and not pink). I'll try some benedryl. It may knock me out and I'm going to a cook out today for the Brickyard 400 that's here in town. I can't spread it just by being around people can I? I feel so bad for your daughter getting it so easily. I'm off to the drug store for REAL calamine lotion, benedryl, and maybe some Ivy Stop. Thanks ladies, keep the idea's coming. |

Looks like I'm going to have a boring, itchy Brickyard 400 day. It's always a big day here cause we're so close to Indy. Guess I'll just lay in the pool and relax here with my boys:) Maybe chlorine will help dry it out!!! |
Here is a link to a site with some fantastic information: http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/condi...poison_ivy.htm |
If over the counter things don't work for you call your doctor. I believe they have something for poision ivy. |
I am the queen of Poison Ivy. once you have had it, you are much more sensitive to it. No you cannot get poison Ivy from someone else. http://pediatrics.about.com/od/poiso...poison_ivy.htm Other than the benedryl and poison Ivy lotions. Ask your Dr for prednisone, and common regular old household amonia will help with the itching. |
I never reacted to poison ivy until 6 years ago. Now, if I go within 6 feet, I die!!. MD can give you steroids , its the fastest way to get rid of it. All the other remedied work, but are much slower. Also, swimming in a chlorinated pool dries it out fast. |
I had it all over my hands a few weeks ago, dr gave me a shot of benadryl and cleared it up. maybe over the counter benadryl would work |
Thanks everyone! I work for a doctor so maybe I can talk him into something potent tomorrow. I must be a wuss, I don't have it that bad but man it's itchy. I can't imagine people who are really covered in it! |
Zanfel drys out poison ivy quickly. I get it at CVS pharmacy. It is expensive like $40 a tube but worth it It helps with the itching also |
I've never had it but one time at camp my friend got it and was she crying! Long time ago ofcourse. Maybe Aloe Vera will heel it better |
