Thanks for the update Va. That is wonderful new and I hope Mikey finally gets to go home. That will truely be a celebration. You need to take care of yourself because it sounds like you are doing so much for everyone else that you arent taking any time for yourself. I bet Mikey is going to need a babysitter so mommy and daddy can get some well deserved rest also. Friday the 13 was a very good day. Give Mikey a kiss for us next time you see him.

Not so good news
 

Okay this has got to be really fast. I just got a call from my daughter Mikey isn't doing to well agian. I know this is so much like a soapopera up and down up and down. Mikey has to have surgery today. His ventricles in his brain are getting bigger and his head circumfrance(SP?) is getting bigger. i will put becca's email to everyone in the post so you all can understand better. Please if you have a minute lite a candle for mikey. I will put the candle ceremony up again on the bottom of this post. Gotta run I have a hour anda half drive to the hospital and am waiting on a sitter for Babybear.

first off, let me tell you mikey has been eating great. over night he took between 70 and 80ml's! thier goal is 65! at 6am this morning, mikey went down for what we hoped was his last ct scan for a while. as i watched his scan in the room, i personally could tell (by my unspecialized eye) that his ventricles had increased in size. at 630, one of the neurosurgery members came up (as they do every morning) and felt his head. he said it felt "full again" but the sutures felt fine. his hc has also gone up a bit, from 42.5 to 43.5cm. so he said he thought mikey would most likely need surgery. that he would talk to dr. wilson (which is the one who has done all his surgeries) to see what he thought. i then put him down to bed. after about 30 minutes he woke up SCREAMING! so i picked him up and snuggled him, which usually makes him stop, but he just screamed harder. so i started to walk with him, and as soon as we walked out his door, all the nurses doctors and dr. wilson were standing there. they were all in shock at how loud and upset mikey was (cause that is not him at all). so mikeys nurse came over to see if he was okay, then we both decided he should get some tylenol just because it seemed like he was in pain. all the other nurses were worried about him... my poor man. dr. wilson then told me that his ventricles have increased, and he could tell now because all the fluid has drained. so he wants to do surgery TODAY to place the shunt. the sooner the better i figure. so he is going in for surgery at about noon time today. i will let you all know how things go. mike will be up a little later tonight, but was working when i got the news. thanks

My gosh, what a roller coaster ride you guys have been on. Just when we think he is over the worst something happens again. I will pray Mikeys surgery goes well today and he get back on the track to healing. Poor little guy.

the doctors bumped mikey's surgery he is now going in at 5 or 5:30 so next update will be very late. gotta run i am at the hospital going back to be with becca and mikey

After Surgery Update
 

Hi everyone,
Well, the doctors changed their minds again and Mikey did not go into to surgery until after 7 pm. He was out of surgery at around 8:30pm. He is doing fine. I just got off the phone with Becca. I had to leave at 9 to be home by 10:30 to get hubby off to work and get babybear ready for bed. So I did not get to see Mikey tonight after surgery. Becca said he was in a little pain and that they gave him some pain meds and he went right to sleep so she was going to lay down beside him in a pull out chair and sleep right there with him. I will get an update in the morning they are doing another ct scan to see how the ventricles are coming down. I will update when I get home from work.
I have to run i am wiped out and still trying to recup from being sick. But I guess nothing can hold me back from my little tough guy. I have him big kisses from everyone here. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. SOrry i need some rest.

Hi everyone,
I have not got much info tonight. I think today has been more of a rest day for Becca and Mikey. I called earlier and Becca was sleeping at the RMH and Mikey was at the hospital. She was up and down with him all night and she was completely wiped out. She said he seemed to be doing great and that he was being given tylenol every 4 hours since surgery so he has been more on the sedated side. This way he can handle the pain. I will give more updates when I hear something. Thank you very much for all the prayers and the liting of the candles. You all are very good family.

Val, I will continue praying for youo and your family. I know you are exhausted but also know you would have it no other way. Being there for Becca and baby Mikey. Hope you get some rest tonight. Please take care. Patty and Murfee

Thanks for the updates. I have never seen a more dedicated Mother than your daughter. She is a very special person and I pray Mikey can come home soon.

Prayers and more good thoughts going out for Mikey tonight. I hope Becca got some rest today as she deserves it so much. Val you should be so proud of them and the way they have handled this situation. It is definately not something for the weak to endure and you can tell she is a very strong young lady.

I am very proud of her and tell her everyday and also tell her what a good mom she is. She learned a lot from me. 18 years ago I was in the same place she is. My youngest son was in and out of three differant hospitals for his heart. He had two open heart surgeries before he was two years old. Becca never wanted to leave my side so when James(my youngest of three) got out of CICU(cardiac intensive care unit) I would have someone bring Becca to the hospital to stay with me. She learned the dedication to a child through that I believe. She was there during the ups and downs. she was only 5 but if you ask her today she will tell you she remembers it all. This is how I can help her with knowing what will gone on and when to speak up for her baby. And we have gone through a lot with medical problems with all three of my kids including Becca. She has seen how hard it can be now she unfortanately is experiancing it herself. I just thank god she has the support she does. I had none. James had no visitors except Becca and I. I had everyone trying to pull me in differant directions like Becca has experianced. But no one wanted to be there to help out. This is why I try to be there for her. If she needs me or not.
Thank you all for all your support and I will Let Becca know that you think she is a very stronge mom. Thank you again.

I just got a quick update from Becca. She didn't answer the phone the first time I called and I forgot to leave a message on her voice mail so I called back. the reason she did not answer the first time is because Mikey was having a seizure. I have not posted this to anyone we are the only ones besides becca and the doctors that know. They think it is becuase he got his seizure meds late last night and it secrewed everything all up. I am praying that is all it is.
gotta run gotta get hubby off to work. so babybear and I can go to bed,.
